FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 7/15/19

MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy sports to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.

Pitchers

Lucas Giolito ($9,100) – Lucas Giolito has scuffled a bit of late, and it has been against above average offenses. He gets a chance to bounce back against a pedestrian Royals lineup who have over a 21% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. This is a good upside spot for Giolito and he his at a reasonable price as well. Giolito has a 30.3% strikeout rate on the season, and a sub four xFIP. Giolito has been excellent against both sides of the plate, holding lefties to a .232 wOBA and righties a .301 wOBA. His strikeout rate is about even to both. His changeup and slider have been excellent, but hitters have just a .284 wOBA off his fastball.

Cash Hitters

Freddie Freeman ($4,100) – The Braves are cruising, while the Brewers are looking more and more vulnerable of late. Freddie Freeman is on a tear and has a .424 wOBA and .277 ISO off right-handed pitching this season. He gets a bump in Miller Park tonight, and Adrian Houser has allowed a .408 wOBA and .209 ISO to left-handed hitters so far this season. The hard-contact he allows is over 40% too. Freeman is one of the better contact bats in baseball for the position, and I don’t mind paying over $4,000 for him even on a slate with Coors.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ($3,100) – Lets hope that home run derby swing carries over to this evening against the Red Sox. Vladdy will get a weak righty, as Rick Porcello steps on the mound with over a 5.00 xFIP and sub 20% strikeout rate. Porcello is allowing a .167 ISO to right-handers, and isn’t getting a lot of swing and misses. Guerrero has a .173 ISO and 40% hard-contact rate against right-handers. Fenway Park is also built for his swing to do some damage.

Joc Pederson ($2,600) – The Dodgers get a bump moving to Philadelphia tonight from Boston this past series or just their home park in general. Citizens Bank is a plus for left-handed power. Joc Pederson is a cheap option who has been slumping a bit, but is in a great spot. Zach Eflin has allowed a .375 wOBA and .280 ISO to left-handed hitters this season. Eflin’s ability or lack there of to get lefties out is why the Dodgers are in such a great spot. Pederson has over a .300 ISO against right-handed pitching this season, with a .385 wOBA.

Tournament Hitters

Shohei-Ohtani ($3,900)Shohei Ohtani is a nice late night home run pick, sporting a .397 wOBA and .295 ISO against right-handed pitching this season. His hard-contact is at 48%, and he is one of the best at hitting high velocity fastballs in a small sample size. Josh James is a flame throwing righty, who has allowed a .311 wOBA and .152 ISO to lefties. Not bad, but a 44% flyball rate and 37% hard-contact rate are not great for James and further production. Love paying up for Ohtani in GPPs, and the ownership should be rather low in this spot.

Max Muncy (3,800) – Echoing what I said with Pederson, Zach Eflin struggles to get lefties out allowing a .374 wOBA and .280 ISO. Max Muncy is another Dodgers power bat to get exposure to. He has a .276 ISO and .388 wOBA off right-handed pitching this season. He matches up well with the flyball right-hander, and gas a .403 wOBA off this fastball range. While Muncy is on the expensive side, he is a worthy bat to pay up for.
