FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 7/19/19
Contents
MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy sports to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.
Pitchers
Jacob deGrom ($10,600) – The Mets and Giants game was on one yesterday, as it was a pitcher’s duel that went well into extra innings. Jacob deGrom will take the hill with a better chance to get a win. The Mets are -170 favorites, and the Giants have a 3.3 implied total. deGrom is one of the top arms on the slate, and is playable in all formats. He costs a hefty price tag, but well worth it. He has a 30% strikeout rate on the season, and faces a Giants offense that is still pretty pedestrian despite the hot stretch. He will also get the advantage of pitching in one of the best ballparks, as if he needs the help.
Cash Hitters
Gleyber Torres ($3,400) – Gleyber Torres is one of the cheaper options for the Yankees, believe it or not. The Yankees face Kyle Freeland, who has been god awful this season. Allowing a .392 wOBA and .290 ISO to right-handed hitters is well, not good. Going back to last year, Gleyber Torres has a .263 ISO and .368 wOBA off left-handed pitching. He is in the back half of the order, but that doesn’t matter too much tonight. Torres is a strong power option at the middle infield, and gives your 2B spot some pop.
Jordan Luplow ($2,600) – It seems Cleveland always has a cheap platoon bat every year, and Jordan Luplow has been that against left-handed pitching. He has a .410 wOBA and .320 ISO dating back to last season, but a majority of that production has come this year. Mike Montgomery is on the hill for the Royals, allowing a .351 wOBA and .232 ISO to right-handers. To help free up some salary, Luplow is a solid option. He might come in a little chalky, but that is okay in cash games.
Justin Smoak ($3,100) – Justin Smoak has turned around things over the last few weeks in the average department, as he was due for some success. He has a .380 wOBA and .270 ISO off right-handers this season, and will face one of the weaker ones in the league. Jordan Zimmermann has allowed a .397 wOBA and .184 ISO to lefties this year. He isn’t missing bats, as hitters have an 80% contact rate off of him. Smoak has a ton of power upside in this spot, and at $3,100 he is one of the better bargains to pair with an expensive pitcher.
Tournament Hitters
Christian Vazquez ($2,800) – Not sure many will be going this route, so I am looking at Christian Vazquez who is projected to hit fifth tonight. He has a .393 wOBA and .253 ISO off left-handed pitching this season. He will face John Means tonight, who has allowed a .310 wOBA and .171 ISO. Vazquez has been decent against lefty changeups with a .394 wOBA, this is what Means throws mainly outside of the fastball to right-handed hitters. Sneaky good play here on FanDuel, especially with the Sox sporting a total over six.
Bryce Harper (3,900) – Jordan Lyles has allowed a whopping .413 wOBA, .261 ISO, and 38% hard-contact rate to left-handed hitters this season. Bryce Harper has a .209 ISO off curveballs, and a .217 ISO off this fastball range. Overall Harper’s numbers are climbing, with a .365 wOBA and .203 ISO off right-handed hitters. Great spot against Lyles, and his ownership shouldn’t be too high on a 14-game slate with plenty of high profile offenses in good spots.
