FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 7/2/19
Contents
MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy sports to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.
Pitchers
Jack Flaherty ($7,900) – Houston visits Coors tonight, which has been given us insane offensive production this season. Nabbing a pitcher that can give you upside but also allow you to fit bats in is crucial tonight. There are options like Charlie Morton to go with in cash games, but I am looking at Jack Flaherty in tournaments. He faces a Seattle team with a 24.8% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. Flaherty hasn’t been as sharp this season, but has a 26% strikeout rate and 3.60 xFIP. There is some concern with the amount of lefties in the lineup for Seattle, but in tournaments I am still willing to go with a pitcher that has 50+ upside for under $8,000.
Cash Hitters
Paul Goldschmidt ($3,100) – Seattle continues to roll with their bullpen approach to start before turning to a starter. That second starter going today is lefty Wade LeBlanc, and the first is Matt Carasiti. While he will see an at-bat against him, Goldschmidt will see a lefty allowing a .200 ISO to right-handers for the next two at-bats. Goldy has a .240 ISO and .364 wOBA off southpaws this season, which is business as usual for him. Goldy offers some salary relief at a power position. Ownership should be rather low on him too.
Joc Pederson ($3,300) – The Dodgers are one of the best late night hammers tonight, and some mid-range exposure would be Joc Pederson. He has a .396 wOBA and .327 ISO off right-handed pitching this season. He is also going to be leading off. Alex Verdugo and Cody Bellinger are other outfield options to consider. Taylor Clarke has a small sample size in the majors, but his minor league numbers are also pedestrian. Clarke has allowed a .427 wOBA and .325 ISO to lefties over 100 PA this season. This could be a very quick outing and Los Angeles still faces a bottom half bullpen.
Christin Stewart ($2,600) – I am focusing on mid-range players to work in with the obvious Coors bats, as we get a full slate where I don’t need to state the obvious. Detroit will go to Chicago which is an upgrade in park factors, and faces a flyball righty that has allowed a .406 wOBA and .231 ISO to left-handers this season. Stewart has some pop against right-handed pitching, sporting a .177 ISO against right-handed pitching since last season. He has a .352 wOBA off Lopez’s fastball range, which he throws 60% of the time to left-handers.
Tournament Hitters
Joey Gallo ($4,300) – Bringing this over from yesterday, as the game was postponed due to the tragic death of Tyler Skaggs. Despite the lefty-lefty matchup, Joey Gallo has double dong potential in this one. He faces a lefty, and that isn’t a big deal given he has a .456 wOBA and .393 ISO against southpaws this season. The 39% strikeout rate isn’t cool, but we are chasing upside here. Jose Suarez is a major flyball arm, sporting a 26% groundball rate so far this season. It is a small sample size, but he is allowing a .267 ISO and .376 wOBA to lefties. Moving into a tough ballpark, and allowing six home runs over four starts, this is not an appealing spot for him.
Rafael Devers (4,000) – Boston is back from London, and will face pitching where the ball actually now spins. Trent Thornton is on the hill tonight, and has allowed a .358 wOBA and .238 ISO to lefties. I am a fan of Thornton, but as long as continues to allow big production to lefties, we are going to target him. Rafael Devers has been a monster at the plate this season. The strikeout rate is at 15%, Devers has a .227 ISO and .403 wOBA off right-handers, and his hard-contact is up to 40%.
