FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 7/30/19
Contents
MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy sports to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.
Pitchers
David Price ($8,900) – My original pick was Noah Syndergaard, but trade rumors are going to move me off of him to at least write about a more sure pick. David Price has dominated the Rays already this season, which is no surprise given they are bottom ten in the league against left-handed pitching. They also have over a 23% strikeout rate as a team against southpaws. Price’s strikeout numbers have been strong against Tampa this season, and just in 2019 in general. He has a 28% strikeout rate on the year, and his strikeout totals against Tampa are 8, 10, 10, and 7. He has allowed an average of two earned runs across those four starts, and checks in just a shade below $9,000 this evening. Tampa’s projected lineup has a .302 wOBA and 27% strikeout rate against lefties this season.
Cash Hitters
Ozzie Albies ($3,300) – Ozzie Albies is a mid-ranged priced second base option tonight. He takes on Erik Fedde, who has over a 5.00 xFIP on the year, and is allowing a .364 wOBA to left-handed hitters. Lefties also have a .172 ISO and 36% hard-contact rate. Throwing sinkers mostly to lefties, Albies has a .431 wOBA and .274 ISO off the pitch. While his July wasn’t as hot as his June, Albies still has a .207 ISO in the month of July, and a 109 wRC+. His play has picked up and he should be hitting second tonight.
Josh Bell ($3,700) – Josh Bell has been somewhat quiet of late, and the price is on the way down. However, he is one of my favorite plays tonight against Tanner Roark. He has allowed a .406 wOBA and .223 ISO to left-handed hitters this season, and only has a 29% groundball rate against them. Bell sports a .329 ISO and .426 wOBA off right-handers this season. This is a great spot for Bell to get back in a groove, and we know he has two homer upside. Not to mention he is going to get a bump from Great American Ballpark.
Didi Gregorius ($3,300) – Not sure why Didi Gregorius isn’t priced up higher, but since returning this season he has a .358 wOBA and .189 ISO off right-handers. The Yankees have one of the higher totals on the slate, and if you want to get economical exposure, Gregorius is it. Taylor Clarke has allowed a .401 wOBA and .288 ISO to left-handed hitters this season. Righties also have a .405 wOBA and .309 ISO, so the Yankees top to bottom are in play. Gregorius fills the SS need with plenty of upside on tonight’s slate.
Tournament Hitters
Tyler Austin ($2,300) – The Giants have some intriguing value tonight on the right side of the plate. This is because Drew Smyly is on the mound, allowing a .391 wOBA and .249 ISO to right-handers this season. Hard-contact is nearly 50% and his flyball rate is over 45%. The Giants bats are in play, and this game is a potential game stack. Tyler Austin has big power against lefties, but a big strikeout rate as well. For $2,300, he is worth a look if you are stacking bigger bats on this slate, and with Coors, I would imagine you are. Austin has a .347 wOBA and .266 ISO off southpaws dating back to last season. The 34% strikeout rate is the knock against him.
Pete Alonso (3,800) – Another home run derby contestant is in the article today, and actually the home run derby winner. I will be looking for another show tonight against Reynaldo Lopez. He throws a hefty fastball mostly to right-handers, which Pete Alonso has a .429 ISO off of. Overall Alonso has crushed right-handed pitching on the year, with a .391 wOBA and .300 ISO. Lopez is a flyball arm, and is allowing a .224 ISO to right-handed hitters. The Mets are in a great spot tonight, so feel free to look at the top of the order names.
