FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 8/13/19

MLB DFS is full on in the dog days of summer. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.

Pitchers

Jack Flaherty
($8,900)
FanDuel hasn’t quite priced Jack Flaherty up for what he has been doing in the second half. In 31.1 innings he has allowed three earned runs, and has held opponents to a .202 wOBA. The strikeout rate was at 26% in the first half, and over this second half stretch he is at 36%. His slider usage is up over the last five or so starts, which has contributed to the success. His slider is one of the best in the bigs, as the whiff rate sits at 48%. He gets a Royals projected lineup that has a .164 ISO, .319 wOBA, and 21.7% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. They have an implied total of 3.8, and are +210 dogs. This is another bargain deal for Flaherty.

Cash Hitters

Anthony Rendon
($4,200)
– There is some rain in the area, which is always tricky in Washington, but expectations are they play. If for some reason the Nationals be the Nationals and end this one, Kris Bryant was the other name I was looking at, and of course I still am. However, Rendon is a beast against left-handed pitching. He has a .307 ISO and .440 wOBA off southpaws this season. His hard-contact rate is over 50%, and he faces a struggling Alex Wood who has a 36% groundball rate. Right-handers have hit him for a .390 wOBA and .269 ISO in a limited sample since returning from the IL.

Nicholas Castellanos
($3,500)
– The Cubs made a great move for Nicholas Castellanos. He gets another lefty tonight, and he sits with a .465 wOBA .309 ISO off southpaws this season. His teammate behind him has a .365 wOBA and .483 ISO. As I am talking about Kris Bryant. Javier Baez also sits with a .438 wOBA and .352 ISO. These are just a few bats I want to consider tonight against the lefty Vargas. He has over a 5.00 xFIP this season, and things have started to unravel a bit of late. The Cubs are in a great spot.

Miguel Cabrera
($3,000)
– We really haven’t used Miguel Cabrera this season, because the power has gone down. Against right-handers he has offered little upside, but against lefties it has been a different story. He has a .380 wOBA and .182 ISO this season. Hs hard-contact is up to 44% and his other batted ball stats are very solid. Kikuchi has allowed a .368 wOBA and .234 ISO to right-handers on the season, and has an xFIP over 5.00. Nobody will really go here, so even in tournaments I like Cabrera as a cheap low ownership guy.

Tournament Hitters

Miguel Sano
($3,100)
– This game is a strong pivot from some of the other high scoring games. Miguel Sano has big power, but also a strikeout rate over 30%. Hence why he is in the GPP section. He has a .269 ISO off right-handers, and Chase Anderson is one to serve them up. He has just a 39% groundball rate this season, and is allowing a .216 ISO to right-handers. Anderson throws his fastball over 50% of the time to right-handers, which Sano has a .365 ISO off his fastball range. He is another low end option that will go overlooked.

Ryan Braun
(3,200) – Martin Perez has struggled of late after a few early starts to the season where we thought he was a different guy. Narrator: He wasn’t. He has allowed a .339 wOBA and .181 ISO to right-handers, and Ryan Braun is always worth a look against left-handed pitching. He has a .354 wOBA and .246 ISO off southpaws this season, which has been fairly consistent with the last few years. Milwaukee has an implied total over 5 and shouldn’t get a ton of love given the size of the slate and Coors.
