FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 8/16/19

MLB DFS is full on in the dog days of summer. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.
Pitchers
Charlie Morton ($11,300) – Charlie Morton is in a great spot tonight at home. He is a monster favorite over -300, and the Tigers have one of the lowest implied totals on the slate. Morton has a 30.5% strikeout rate this season, and limits power. Tropicana is also a place that suppresses power. The Tigers projected lineup has a .305 wOBA and .140 ISO against right-handers on the season. Their strikeout rate is sitting at 22.4%. Not great stuff by this club, and Morton’s strikeout prop is sitting at a healthy 8.5.
Cash Hitters
Amed Rosario ($2,500) – If you are looking for a cheap leadoff bat, Amed Rosario has a .250 ISO and .383 wOBA off lefties this season. His hard-contact is up over 40% against them, and Mike Montgomery is allowing a lot of hard-contact as well. Right-handers have hit him for a .329 wOBA and .182 ISO this season. His move to KC also hasn’t been all that kind. Names like Pete Alonso and J.D. Davis are also intriguing, and even a Todd Frazier in tournaments isn’t a bad way to go.
Juan Soto ($4,100) – Juan Soto is just a flat out stud, sporting a .274 ISO and .422 wOBA off right-handed pitching this season. He gets Adrian Houser tonight, who has allowed a .411 wOBA and .261 ISO to lefties. He has been good against right-handers, but the clear weakness is against LHH. They also have a 49% hard-contact rate and a sub 40% groundball rate off him. Soto is an excellent pay up option, but I wouldn’t go too heavy on the Washington offense as a whole.
Mitch Moreland ($3,200) – Finding cheap exposure to the Red Sox is tough to do these days, but when healthy Mitch Moreland has a .307 ISO and .379 wOBA off right-handed pitching. He gets Aaron Brooks tonight, who struggles against both sides of the plate, but lefties have a .380 wOBA and .284 ISO off Brooks this season. The Red Sox have over a seven implied total on the slate, and the back half has some value if needed. Moreland should be hitting 6th in the order tonight.
Tournament Hitters
Hunter Renfroe ($3,000) – Citizens Bank is a home run park, and Hunter Renfroe has all this power to target. He has a .334 wOBA and .269 ISO off right-handed pitching this season, but the strikeout rate does go up against right-handers. A $3,000 power bat on this slate is intriguing for tournaments. Vince Velasquez has also allowed a .366 wOBA and .272 ISO to right-handed hitters. San Diego has some boom or bust appeal tonight as a stack, but tournaments is the only place I would go.
Rougned Odor (3,000) – Jake Odorizzi has always been known for his flyball and hard-contact rates, and not much has changed this season. This could get him in trouble tonight against a Texas offense that bodes well at home. Rougned Odor is another cheap power bat with a .214 ISO off right-handers, but also a below average strikeout rate. This knocks him down to just being a GPP bat, but I like his potential here. It is a great spot for the Texas offense, and the implied total is up over five.
