FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 8/2/19
Contents
MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy sports to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.
Pitchers
Lance Lynn ($10,500) – Hard to believe a road team is on the road in Texas with an implied total under four. However, Lance Lynn has been excellent this season and that road team is the Tigers. Lynn has a 3.55 xFIP this season and 27% strikeout rate. Lynn’s control has also been solid and he is going to face a majority of right-handed hitters. The Detroit projected lineup has a .308 wOBA, .155 ISO, and 26.1% strikeout rate. Lynn has dominated right-handed hitters, with a .273 woBA allowed, and 34.8% strikeout rate. He isn’t the pitcher we once stacked against, and he is certainly worthy of this price tag that he has.
Cash Hitters
Corey Dickerson ($2,600) – Corey Dickerson was a strong pick up for the Phillies, as they needed another outfield option. He should find his way into the lineup tonight, but also Adam Haseley could be in there as well at $2,400. Lefty outfielders are in play here, as Nova has allowed a .366 wOBA and .213 ISO to lefties on the season. His groundball rate drops, and he throws his changeup and sinker mostly. Both are getting clubbed for over a .350 wOBA and .190 ISO on the year. Dickerson has a .411 wOBA and .266 ISO off right-handers during his time in Pittsburgh, and he will get a park factor upgrade.
David Peralta ($3,600) – David Peralta has a .387 wOBA and .213 ISO off right-handers. His hard-contact is over 40%, but the groundball rate is back up to 50% which isn’t ideal. However, Joe Ross has always struggled with lefties in his career, and continues to bounce in and out of the minors. He is making a start tonight, and dating back to last season has allowed a .450 wOBA and .183 ISO to lefties. He is throwing mostly sinkers and fastballs to lefties. His fastball is getting tagged for a .528 wOBA and .391 ISO. His sinker is getting hit for a .383 wOBA and .147 ISO.
Justin Smoak ($3,300) – Aaron Brooks has allowed a .359 wOBA and .268 ISO to lefties. Righties also have a .352 wOBA and .213 ISO. The Toronto bats delivered last night, and are all in a good spot again. The young bats especially. Justin Smoak surprised us by staying in Toronto, but has a .379 wOBA and .273 ISO against right-handers. He is in a power spot against Brooks, and Camden Yards is a strong park for lefty power. At these Toronto prices they make sense to stack them up with an expensive arm.
Tournament Hitters
Rhys Hoskins ($4,000) – Ivan Nova is a low strikeout arm, allowing a .365 wOBA, and .191 ISO to right-handed hitters. Nova has mostly thrown sinkers to right-handed hitters, and Hoskins rakes sinkers. He has a .540 wOBA and .432 ISO off the pitch, getting that natural lift with his swing. Hoskins is a solid pay up option who won’t draw too high of ownership either. Hoskins has a .249 ISO and .372 wOBA off right-handers on the year. The Phillies have been somewhat disappointing of late, but are in a good stacking spot again.
Tim Anderson (3,000) – The Phillies made a move similar to the Red Sox, where they tried to fool those into thinking they were a buying team. Jason Vargas has been over-performing, with a 5.19 xFIP. He has allowed a .174 ISO to right-handed hitters this season, and a 39% hard-contact rate. Tim Anderson is at a nice price tag, and has a .367 xwOBA based on his prior numbers against lefties this season. He is better than advertised, and has some SB ability as well. Jose Abreu, James McCann, and Eloy Jimenez are also in play.
