FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 8/6/19
Contents
MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy sports to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.
Pitchers
Zack Wheeler ($10,700) – The Mets are on a roll as they push into the playoff hunt. Zack Wheeler is on the bump tonight against a poor Miami offense at home. There is some rain in the area, but nothing that should derail Wheeler’s start. Wheeler has a 26% strikeout rate this season, and a 3.85 xFIP. He holds right-handed hitters to a .277 wOBA and .120 ISO. Only one lefty is projected in the lineup tonight for Miami. Wheeler has solid potential on being the highest scorer on the slate, and of course is a safe bet against the Marlins. There are plenty of value options on this slate to build a balanced roster around Wheeler.
Cash Hitters
Kole Calhoun ($3,300) – Anthony DeSclafani has struggled against lefties in his career, and 2019 is no different. He has allowed a .400 wOBA and .261 ISO to lefties on the year. Hard-contact and flyball rates over 45% to lefties is also not ideal. The Angels are in a great ballpark for lefty power, and Kole Calhoun’s power is something to target. He has a .340 wOBA and .238 ISO off right-handers, and a 45% hard-contact rate. The Angels have a 4.6 implied total, which might fly under the radar.
Corey Seager ($3,000) – Miles Mikolas has allowed a .369 wOBA and .195 ISO to lefties on the year, and the hard-contact is over 40%. This is quite different from last season where Mikolas limited damage. The lefties of the Dodgers are intriguing tonight, and Seager comes in at a position where I can’t quite pay up. Seager has a .375 wOBA and .217 ISO off right-handers. Seager is one of the better contact bats on the Dodgers sitting at 79% this season. It is a good spot for Seager, and he doesn’t break the bank.
Matt Thaiss ($2,600) – For a cheap bat, Matt Thaiss doesn’t qualify as your typical cash game play. His strikeout rate is rather high, but the price tag helps afford some of these bats. He gets the same enticing matchup of Calhoun, and has shown some power of his own. He has a .298 ISO and 45% hard-contact rate against right-handers stand out. The contact rate being below 70% is the downside here. This game has enticing lefty bats from the Angels side, and the righties on the Reds are also in play.
Tournament Hitters
Mark Canha ($2,900) – There are a lot of right-handed bats in this game that mash left-handed pitching. Jon Lester and Brett Anderson are on the hill, and this is a good GPP game to get exposure to. Mark Canha is a cheap bat who has a .371 wOBA and .250 ISO off southpaws. This is no surprise given he has been a talented platoon bat against lefties. Lester is allowing a .334 wOBA and .184 ISO to righties on the year. Canha has good numbers off Lester’s fastball range and his cutter has been hit hard.
Jackie Bradley Jr. (2,700) – Jackie Bradley Jr is a cheap outfield bat, and a way to get exposure to the Red Sox. He has a .202 ISO and .338 wOBA off right-handers this season. Jake Junis has allowed a .356 wOBA and .193 ISO to lefties. Hard-contact is at 45% and his groundball rate is rather average. Junis throws a slider and fastball mostly to lefties. JBJ has a .359 wOBA and .244 ISO off sliders. He also has a .479 wOBA and .343 ISO off this fastball range. He is a sneaky tournament bat tonight.
