FanDuel NFL Week 2 GPP Tournament Picks: Daily Fantasy Advice & Strategy

There are a few scoring differences to be aware of if you are playing on FanDuel from a site like DraftKings. This is universal, but interceptions are just -1 in scoring and not -2 which seems to be the standard in season long leagues. FanDuel is a .5 per reception scoring league, so that does play a factor into building lineups. Tarik Cohen won’t have as much weight compared to PPR sites. There are also no yardage bonuses for crossing over a specific threshold. Now that you are caught up, it is time to look at some contrarian plays for the Week 2 Main Slate.

Quarterback

Ben Roethlisberger
– $7,600

GPP Projection: 22.4

The Steelers no show was a tilting aspect of Week 1, but many didn’t have to put up with it given it was the Sunday Night game. They will travel back home where they welcome the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle’s pass defense was not something I was high on coming into the season, and a limited Bengals offense produced fairly well through the air. Pittsburgh looked suspect on offense against New England, which hopefully deflates some ownership. A matchup against Seattle likely will as well. At $7,600 Roethlisberger has some solid upside, and is a nice correlation play with JuJu Smith-Schuster, listed below.

Running Backs

Ezekiel Elliott
– $8,500

GPP Projection: 21.3

It was a somewhat cautious week for Dallas using Ezekiel Elliot, and we should start to ramp up touches here rather soon. Elliot is familiar with this Washington team, and has averaged over 20 touches against them in his career, to also go along with 97 rushing yards per game and six touchdowns. The Cowboys are going to roll through teams and put Elliot in an excellent situation. His involvement more in the passing game has also been a plus dating back to last season. Love the chance to get on him early, especially with the other stud backs around him in good spots this week.

Sony Michel
– $6,800

GPP Projection: 18.6

Another recency bias could be Sony Michel, although a matchup with Miami is still going to put him on the radar for many. This is a high upside spot for Michel, as New England will roll right through. Even with a committee type backfield, multi-touchdown upside is in play. Miami allowed the 4th most fantasy points to opposing running backs last season, and allowed a collective 37 fantasy points to the Baltimore backfield last week. The sub-$7,000 price tag is also a plus in this spot.

Wide Receivers

DK Metcalf
– $6,100

GPP Projection: 16.9

The Seattle offense was not pretty last week, and overall it is an offense I will be careful with. This is all outside of Chris Carson, who is the continuous name to target. DK Metcalf saw six targets in Week 1, catching four of them for 89 yards. He boasted 104 air yards, and had 30% of the targets. However, there were not many targets to go around as the Seattle offense was pretty limited. A 17.3 aDOT and strong touchdown upside is noteworthy this week for someone at $6,100. The Steelers secondary is still a bit leaky as well.

JuJu Smith-Schuster
– $8,100

GPP Projection: 19.2

Of course we will need to watch the toe injury, but I doubt he sits out of this one. He gets a Seattle secondary that still has some name value for some reason. Last season they were middle of the road in fantasy points allowed to wide receivers, and struggled in Week 1. Smith-Schuster had a rough Week 1 as the new WR1 in Pittsburgh. We can count on him for targets still, and dating back to last season he has a ceiling of 23.3 FD points. I’ll be pairing him up with Roethlisberger in tournaments for Week 2.

Tight End

Jared Cook
– $6,000

GPP Projection: 14.2

It was a quiet debut for the Saints new tight end, and it was in a good spot for him to produce. New Orleans has had some up and down fantasy games for their weapons because of how many guys they get the ball too. However, Cook is a nice buy low tournament play against the Rams. They allowed the 9th most fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends last season. It was a long time ago, but he also crushed the Rams with over 150 receiving yards. In a potential shootout game, Cook is someone to target.

Defense

Chicago Bears
– $4,500

GPP Projection: 12.5

Ownership aside, the Bears offense is far too cheap. They are the seventh most expensive defense on FanDuel, and that is some wild pricing. They will take on a shell of Joe Flacco, and a battered offensive line that failed to protect him last week. Overall this offense is not a good one, and the Bears defense was strong in Week 1 holding the Packers to 10 points with five sacks. Chicago generated plenty of turnovers last season, and Denver’s offense is nothing to shy away from.
