Quarterbacks
Quarterback for me this week is about paying down a bit. There are several options below the $7,500 mark that I like and are in great matchups. Now the pay up option for me this week is Deshaun Watson, who is in the best spot out of all the expensive quarterbacks. He is averaging 21.9 FD points over the last three games and gets a matchup against the Titans who are allowing 2.2 passing touchdowns per game. The Vikings-Falcons game is certainly a spot for offense and while they offer up running backs, the quarterback play here is fairly cheap and against exploitable secondaries.
The guy I am looking at the most is Matthew Stafford. Detroit has a 28 implied total and the Jaguars are allowing 280 passing yards per game, 2.2 passing touchdowns per game, and 21.1 FD points per game. Sign me up for Stafford and his receiving options. Ryan Tannehill is in the same boat against a weak Houston defense.
Running Backs
I am looking to pay down a bit here this week and jam in some expensive wide receivers and a tight end option. There is one pay up option this week and that is Derrick Henry. The Texans are allowing 25.3 FD points per game to opposing running backs. They have allowed a whopping 141 yards per game. Aaron Jones, Miles Sanders, and Mike Davis are all in a very tough spot but I like the upside still.
You are likely looking at Alexander Mattison against a below-average Atlanta defense, as Mattison will take over the workload for Dalvin Cook. He beings the range of cheap options to consider. Todd Gurley on the other side is in a good spot. Minnesota has allowed 20.1 FD points per game to running backs and one rushing touchdown per game. James Robinson is a sneaky GPP option against a horrendous Detroit run defense.
Getting cheaper, David Montgomery and Ronald Jones are below $6,000 against some of the worst run defenses in the league. Both the Panthers and the Packers are allowing over 25 FD points per game to opposing running backs and over 1.5 rushing touchdowns per game.
Wide Receivers
My lineup construction is going to set up being able to grab at least two of the premium wideouts and for me, that is Calvin Ridley and Adam Thielen. There is a lot of injury news we need to watch out for that will dictate how good some of these options are. The Tampa wideouts are in a tournament only spot for me because the Packers secondary has just been lights out. Kenny Golladay is in a premium spot against a bad Jacksonville secondary.
The mid $6,000 range is filled with upside plays. AJ Brown should play this week despite the questionable tag and Houston is allowing 24.4 FD points per game to wide receivers. DeVante Parker and Marquise Brown are also very intriguing. Philadelphia’s defense struggled last week and overall have been league average at best.
Now if DJ Chark and Laviska Shenault can’t play or one of them even can’t, Keelan Cole is a cheap value to consider. I do like all three depending on health. Detroit has allowed 27.7 FD points per game to opposing wide receivers. Tyler Boyd is still super cheap at $6,100 and the Colts secondary is a bit overrated given who they have faced this season. Justin Jefferson is $5,900 coming off a bad game but in a spot, he can rebound. Marvin Jones and Brandin Cooks are also cheap.
Tight Ends
Mark Andrews is the simple pay up option for me this week against Philadelphia. They are allowing a touchdown per game to tight ends and have allowed 12.2 FD points per game. The Ravens have a 27.5 total in this one and Baltimore continues to just look towards Andrews and Brown in the passing game. If you want to pivot off and use a Robert Tonyan or Zach Ertz you can do so. Ertz has struggled this season but is in a sneaky good spot. Tonyan has a tougher matchup and the price tag is a bit too high for my liking but can understand using him in GPPs.
Jonnu Smith is my mid-range play against Houston. Smith has averaged 16.5 FD points over his last three games and has a floor of 15.2 over his last eight. Just insane numbers. Evan Engram was in a good spot last week and couldn’t get going but against Washington, he has another chance to go off. They have allowed 68 yards per game to tight ends and a touchdown per game.
Defense
This is a pretty straight forward week at defense but there are a few that have crazy upside to really break a slate. That is Pittsburgh for me given their pressure rate and ability to force turnovers. And when Baker Mayfield is the opposing quarterback that upside gets even higher. Oddly enough they don’t project well as the system might be valuing the Browns offense at a higher level. The Ravens and Colts continue to put up big numbers and are strong plays in all formats. Both the Giants and Washington defenses should be considered in GPPs if you want to spin off popular teams.
