Quarterbacks
Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray re the top two pay up options for me this week, even over Josh Allen and Pat Mahomes. I like Allen given the rushing upside and the Jets just struggling to play football, but the Wilson/Murray battle is going to be a fun one and both pass defenses are ones to target. Pat Mahomes is in a potential snow game this week against Denver. I wouldn’t touch him in cash games but in tournaments he is still fine. Matt Ryan and Matthew Stafford are two other options this week that are in the mid-range. Detroit and Atlanta have been in the bottom ten in fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks this season.
Both Stafford and Joe Burrow are my cheap options this week in the lower $7,000s. Burrow gets a Browns defense allowing 19.3 FD points per game to opposing quarterbacks. Opposing quarterbacks against the Falcons have averaged 29 FD points per game. Justin Herbert is a solid tournament arm this week going up against Jacksonville. They have a four-touchdown implied total and the Jaguars are allowing 19.6 FD points per game to opposing quarterbacks.
Running Backs
There is certainly a trend this week with pay up options being in great spots. Alvin Kamara gets a Carolina defense that has allowed 1.5 touchdowns per game to opposing running backs and has been a bottom-five run defenses since last season. Michael Thomas isn’t a given to be back meaning Kamara will still be a featured weapon in the passing game as well. Aaron Jones is my favorite back of the weekend as he gets Houston’s defense that has allowed 161 rushing yards per game and 1.5 rushing touchdowns this season. Opposing backs are averaging 28.5 fantasy points per game this season.
Chris Carson and James Conner should be part of a lower owned group of backs this week. While Davis has a bit more value on DraftKings with their scoring he is still in play against the Saints given his usage has been high while filling in for Christian McCaffrey. Tennessee has allowed 20.4 fantasy points per game to opposing backs this season.
Kareem Hunt is my favorite value on the slate at just $7,100, as he is outside the top ten in pricing yet projects for the third-highest fantasy points this week. Hunt should see a solid workload against the Bengals defense, which bodes well for the upside given this is a bottom-ten run defense. Todd Gurley remains a GPP option given Detroit’s run defense is always one to target.
Wide Receivers
This is a week where there is so many pay up options in good spots, and luckily on FanDuel, it is easy to jam them in. Davante Adams is in a great spot as the Packers stack is well in play this week. Houston has allowed 1.5 passing touchdowns to receiver this season and 26.2 fantasy points per game. DeAndre Hopkins gets Seattle, who have allowed a whopping 38 fantasy points per game. Then you gave the Atlanta-Detroit game as Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley get a strong matchup. Detroit has allowed 26.2 FD points per game to opposing wide receivers this season. Kenny Golladay faces a very favorable Atlanta secondary and his upside should hit this week. Atlanta has allowed 217 receiving yards to receivers and 30.3 FD points per game.
Getting into the cheaper or mid-range names, Terry McLaurin at $7,100 is a strong option. Dallas has allowed 1.8 touchdowns per game to receivers this season and 32.1 fantasy points per game. DK Metcalf still isn’t priced up enough at $7,300 as both him and Tyler Lockett are in a good spot against an overrated Arizona defense so far this season. Robby Anderson at $6,400 in a shootout game is a strong option this week. Anderson has led the Panthers in targets and about every receiving stat under the sun.
The Tennessee secondary is allowing 28.7 FD points per game to opposing wide receivers this season. The issue this week is that the Steelers wide receivers are all producing at different times and targets have been all over the place. Diontae Johnson is likely back this week and that creates clutter with Chase Claypool and JuJu Smith-Schuster. All remain great GPP options and AJ Brown is still in play as well.
Tight Ends
The pay up options faces some tougher defenses as New England and Denver have held tight ends to under seven fantasy points per game. Travis Kelce and George Kittle are still in play just because their role in the offense and floor they bring each week, but I like a tier down this week. Hunter Henry is $5,800 and gets the Jaguars who have allowed 11.2 FPPG to opposing tight ends this season. Jacksonville has allowed 0.83 touchdowns per game. TJ Hockenson is in a great spot this week against the Falcons, who have allowed a whopping 73 yards per game and 1.1 touchdowns per game to tight ends on the season. They have allowed three multi-touchdown games to tight ends this season. Austin Hooper at $5,400 is intriguing given his role in the offense has improved the last few weeks. Hooper is averaging 9.27 fantasy points per game in the last three games.
Defense
The ownership should flock to the Jets this week, as they are $5,000 but face the Jets who have allowed the 7th most fantasy points per game to opposing defenses this season. The Bills defense has not been good this season but this is a chance to straighten out some of their issues. This Jets team is just straight-up bad. Another team I like this week is the Chiefs. They face a Denver offense that has lost a lot of playmakers and have turned the ball over ten times in five games and have allowed 15 sacks in that span as well. Kansas City projects for the second-most fantasy points this week. The Chargers are well in play against the Jaguars, who have a 20.25 implied total this week and continue to struggle with turnovers.
