FanDuel NFL Week 8 Tournament GPP Picks: Daily Fantasy Advice & Strategy

When playing in large-field tournaments you need to have a balance of players hitting their absolute ceiling for the week, whether that be with a stack of using a lineup of one-offs. Ownership is important but many tournaments have been won with having a few high owned players that go off that week. This article will bring you my favorite tournament plays stretched across a range of prices where I am looking at them hitting their peak. Some will carry some ownership just for the sake of being top plays while some will be lesser owned.

Quarterbacks

>Ryan Tannehill – $7,500 – Projection: 20.7

I don’t really understand the pricing on Ryan Tannehill on any site so far this season. He is averaging 22.7 fantasy points per game over his last seven games and has a matchup against Cincinnati this week who have allowed 2.1 passing touchdowns per game and over 260 yards through the air. You also can stack him with Jonnu Smith and AJ Brown. He projects as one of the top points per dollar plays at the position and is in one of the more economical passing stacks as well.

Jimmy Garoppolo – $6,600  – Projection: 18.7

From a points per dollar perspective, it is hard to ignore Jimmy Garoppolo for so cheap. Say what you want about him, but he will have to throw a ton this week and the Seahawks are playing up-tempo and high scoring football. Their games have been goldmines for fantasy points. They are allowing 29.4 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. While Garoppolo is missing Deebo Samuel, he still has George Kittle, Aiyuk, and a few wide receivers that will work into the mix. For $6,600 I like a cheap 49ers stack and can spend on big names to go with it.

Running Backs

Alvin Kamara – $9,000 – Projection: 18.5

Alvin Kamara is averaging 24.5 FanDuel points per game over the last seven and no running back on this slate has more. He gets a Bears defense that is certainly one that most look at and shy away from, but I wouldn’t with Kamara. We will still see if Michael Thomas can return but if not I expect a grind it out game and the Saints offense revolve around Kamara. This defense has given up double-digit fantasy point games to running backs in all but one game. And that includes some names like Malcolm Brown, Adrian Peterson, and Dion Lewis.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire – $7,500 – Projection: 14.6

The Chiefs have a whopping 34 implied total and are -19 point favorites at home. They get a Jets defense allowing 21.6 fantasy points per game to running backs and while Le’Veon Bell is going to be in the mix, we still should see 15+ touches for Clyde Edwards-Helaire. He is in a range where names like Jonathan Taylor and Kareem Hunt should carry a majority of the ownership. With plenty of points expected and the Chiefs playing with a lead, CEH has a lot of potential.

Wide Receivers

Brandon Aiyuk – $5,900 – Projection: 11.5

There will be a trend as I like three wide receivers below $6,000 this week. Brandon Aiyuk is one of them with a matchup against the Seahawks, who have allowed 38.1 fantasy points per game to wide receivers this season. Aiyuk has played well so far in his rookie year and Kyle Shanahan as he usually does is getting Aiyuk in space and using him creatively. With Deebo Samuel out, he will need to do more of that and he should have 8+ touches this week against a poor Seattle defense.

Marquise Brown – $5,900 – Projection: 10.8

Marquise Brown gets a sneaky good matchup this week. He faces a Pittsburgh defense that is certainly a good one, but wideouts have put up some big games against them this season. On a week where there are plenty of options, not sure the ownership will be there for Brown making him a great GPP dart throw. The Steelers are allowing 1.5 passing touchdowns per game to receivers this season and Brown has been a go-to guy when healthy for Lamar Jackson.

Henry Ruggs III – $5,700 – Projection: 9.6

The Cleveland secondary has been torched this season, allowing 210 yards per game to receivers and 1.57 touchdowns per game. This is a great spot for Henry Ruggs to be a sneaky low-owned tournament play with big upside. This game has the chance for some shootout potential. At only $5,700 he is a great WR3 option and the upside for the price is hard to ignore. We saw it a few weeks ago against the Chiefs but he has largely been quiet around that game as he has worked himself back to full health.

Tight End

Jonnu Smith – $6,100 – Projection: 9.2

There really have not been many better than Jonnu Smith this season on the field and in the fantasy department. He is averaging 10.7 fantasy points over his last seven games and that is the same as Mark Andrews. He gets a Cincinnati defense allowing 68 yards per game to tight ends and 0.86 touchdowns per game. The Titans are in a great spot this week against this defense and Smith is just more exposure to it.

Defense

Miami Dolphins – $3,900 – Projection: 7.2

The Chiefs are obviously the strong play this week against the Jets and FanDuel scoring makes it easy to fit them in compared to DraftKings. The Dolphins are interesting as they have averaged 7.7 fantasy points per game in their last seven games. They are averaging 2.8 sacks per game and 1.3 turnovers per game. They are at home against the Rams who are on a short week and quite honestly I never know which Jared Goff is going to show up. Is it the one we saw against the 49ers throwing for 198 yards or the one against Washington for 309 and two scores. I like the Dolphins as a cheap option hoping to catch the Rams on a bad week.
