Ohio vs Bowling Green (+21) – 7:30 PM
It’s Tuesday which means it is time to start the college football week with some MACtion. The Ohio Bobcats (4-6) take on the Bowling Green Falcons (3-7). Ohio is coming off of a 37-34 defeat to Western Michigan in OT. Bowling Green was blown out by Miami (OH) 44-3 in their last game.
Four of Ohio’s six losses this season have been by three points or less. On the other hand, three of their four wins were by one possession. The Bobcats are college football’s version of the San Diego Chargers, every game seems to come down to the wire. In a tough conference game, giving up 20 points for a team like Ohio is tough.
The Bobcats rank 67th in points scored per game and do most of their damage on the ground (31st). Their defense is certainly vulnerable as they are 83rd in points allowed and 83rd against the pass. The Bobcats are also 96th against the rush and they allow a ton of big plays as they are 108th in yards per play.
The Falcons lost 52-0 to the two best teams they played this season, Notre Dame and Kansas State (both of which far superior to any opponent Ohio has played this season). The biggest win this season for the Falcons was over conference foe Toledo a few weeks back.
Bowling Green’s offense has struggled this season as they 125th in points scored and 119th in passing. They are slightly above average on the ground as they rank 59th. The Falcons’ defense isn’t any better as they are 116th in the country in points allowed per game. They are a 67th against the pass but 118th against the rush. Part of the reason for their low offensive numbers and worse defensive numbers can be attributed to those two 52-0 blowout losses.
Take those two games off of Bowling Green’s schedule and their numbers aren’t as terrible. Bowling Green is getting 20 points in this game and being that it is a conference game and at home, I like the Falcons to cover here. Both teams like the run the ball so I think a lot of time comes off the clock in this game and both offenses play this game slowly. In a low-scoring run-first game like this, I find it hard for Ohio to win this by more than 21.
