New England Patriots vs New York Jets Anytime TD Scorers
This week’s Monday Night Football game pits the two bottom-feeders in the AFC East together. The New England Patriots (2-5), losers of their last four games, will take on the winless New York Jets (0-8).
Cam Newton has been taking a lot of heat for the Patriots’ struggles this season. His inability to hold onto the ball has resulted in a number of the Patriots’ losses. Also, the Patriots pass offense is the third-worst in the NFL. If there is one player in this game that needs a big game, it is Cam Newton.
The majority of the damage that Newton has done this year is on the ground. He leads the team in rush attempts (59) and rushing yards (298). This should be a game that Newton tries to take over and win on his own. Expect a lot of rushes from him today, especially down near the goal line. He should be able to run one in tonight against the Jets.
For the New York Jets, their offense has been a disaster all-around. The league’s worst offense in terms of yards and points, New York has struggled to find the endzone all season. Now with reports that Joe Flacco is likely to start for the injured Sam Darnold, the Jets’ offense is now in an even worse situation, somehow.
The Patriots’ defense is elite as it has been in recent years, so the Jets should be able to score a touchdown or two in this game, even with Flacco under center. However, it is hard to bank on Flacco being the one to throw for a touchdown. Instead, it is more likely we see a rushing touchdown or two from New York.
Lamical Perine has 26 rushes over the last three games compared to 31 for Frank Gore. Perine also has two receptions in each of the last three games while Gore has zero over the last two. The touches are split about 50/50, but it is clear that the young Perine is the more explosive back compared to the aging Gore. At +220 odds, Perine is the back that you should be taking in New York to score tonight.
Anytime TD Scorers: Cam Newton (-120) and Lamical Perine (+220)
