FanDuel To Stream Professional Women’s Hockey League Games
A new league is getting the “watch and bet” treatment from FanDuel, its parent company announced in late November.
FanDuel Sportsbook has joined forces with the Professional Women’s Hockey League. With the agreement, FanDuel becomes an official sportsbook partner and the league’s exclusive in-app streaming partner in the US.
FanDuel will stream 90 PWHL games, plus playoffs
The partnership enables FanDuel to stream up to 90 PWHL regular-season games and additional playoff games live on the FanDuel app.
It will also integrate FanDuel’s presence beyond the app. The company hopes fans will see it as a key vehicle for driving increased access to the league, according to a press release from parent company Flutter.
“FanDuel is proud to partner with the PWHL and support the league’s incredible athletes,” said Dale Hooper, the general manager of FanDuel Canada. “This partnership is about creating a new era of fan engagement — one that brings hockey closer to fans while helping grow the visibility of women’s professional sports.”
Watch and wager live on the FanDuel app
FanDuel’s platform allows viewers to watch and wager on PWHL games simultaneously, including lines on team and player props. The app also allows users to place same-game parlays without interrupting the action on the ice.
The news represents an expansion of FanDuel’s live streaming and wagering catalog, which also includes horse racing and select MMA and international basketball events.
Its primary service uses BetVision, a product from Genius Sports that lets bettors stream sporting events and bet on them with access to live stat tracking.
Engaging with a growing market
Women’s sports continue to surge in popularity across North America. Women’s college and professional basketball have led the charge, seeing yearly increases and new records for viewership and sports betting handle.
The six-team PWHL, meanwhile, began its second season on Nov. 30 and extended its season length to 30 games per team from 24 in its inaugural season.
FanDuel brings new avenues to increase the PWHL’s popularity, increasing its visibility for existing and prospective fans and bettors. The league’s teams are split between US and Canadian cities:
- Boston Fleet
- Minnesota Frost
- Montreal Victoire
- New York Sirens
- Ottawa Charge
- Toronto Sceptres
Five of the six PWHL markets have legal online sports betting. Only Minnesota sports betting remains sidelined.
