Despite New York facing a $6 billion budget deficit, Governor Andrew Cuomo didn’t find it necessary to include revenue from mobile sports betting in his executive budget for the 2021 fiscal year. He even went as far as calling it “irresponsible” in his address. “This is not the time to come up with creative although irresponsible revenue sources to solve a problem which doesn’t really exist.”
However, a small and virtually insignificant expansion was included in his budget proposal. In New York, sports betting is only allowed in authorized casinos and bets must be made inside the casinos sports lounge area. Cuomo’s budget proposal included an expansion for sports betting to be allowed anywhere on casino property. This would allow bettors to place bets from anywhere inside the casino as well as outside of the casino but still on casino property. It may be a small step forward but it is not what New York needs as New Jersey continues to benefit from Cuomo’s lack of urgency to legalize mobile betting.

Wisconsin vs Purdue (116) – 7:00 PM
The Wisconsin Badgers (12-7) take on the Purdue Boilermakers (10-9) tonight in West Lafayette. Wisconsin enters this game coming off of a win against Nebraska 82-68. Purdue is currently on a two-game losing streak and has lost four of their last five after falling to Illinois 79-62 in their last game.
Wisconsin has been very one dimensional this season as their defense is one of the best in the country while their offense is one of the worst. The Badgers average just 67.3 points per game (282nd). They are an excellent free-throw shooting team (16th) but have struggled from the field (208th) and from deep (144th). Defensively, this Wisconsin team allows just 60.6 points per game, good for 17th-best in the country.
Purdue is virtually the same team as Wisconsin, aside from the free-throw success. The Boilermakers are averaging just 67.6 points per game (278th). They have also struggled from the field (287th) as well as from three (212th). However, their worst shooting is from the free-throw line as they shoot just 66% (297th). Like the Badgers, the Boilermakers are a top-tier team on defense as they allow just 60.5 points per game (14th).
The Big Ten has seen its fair share of hard-fought and low-scoring games. This game should be another one of those. The total is very low in this one and it may even still be too high. Both of these teams are in the Top 10 in slowest tempo in the country. Possessions will be limited and points will be at a premium. I see a low-scoring game here that manages to stay UNDER the 116 mark. Formula has the total in this one at just 113 (55-58).
