Wisconsin vs #19 Iowa (-5.5) – 8:30 PM
The Wisconsin Badgers (12-8) take on the Iowa Hawkeyes (14-5) in a Big Ten showdown tonight. Wisconsin fell to Purdue 70-51 in their last contest while Iowa is currently on a four-game winning streak after taking down a ranked Rutgers team 85-80.
Wisconsin has been a very one-sided team this season. Their offense has struggled to put up points all season as they are just 298th in the country in points scored per game. While they have shot well from the free-throw line (28th), they have struggled everywhere else. The Badgers are 208th in FG% and 152nd from three. Rebounding has also been one of their weaknesses as they are just 298th in that category as well. Their defense is what has helped Wisconsin win as many as 12 games this season. They allow the 20th-fewest points per game in the country.
Iowa has been the complete opposite of Wisconsin this season. The Hawkeyes are an offensive powerhouse while their defense has been less than stellar. Iowa is 17th in the country in points scored per game. They are a Top 85 team in the country in FG%, 3PT%, FT% and rebounding. Their defense hasn’t impressed much as they are 208th in points allowed per game.
Wisconsin is one of the slowest-paced teams in the country. Iowa is a Top 100 team in terms of tempo. The Hawkeyes are capable of scoring fast and in bunches while Wisconsin struggles throughout most of their games to put up points. The Badgers will need to be overly effective from three if they want a chance to pull the upset in this one and I just don’t see that happening. Look for Iowa to run away early with this one as Wisconsin struggles to score and with their offense, they can’t make late comebacks. I like the Hawkeyes to control this game from the tip and get the cover. The formula has Iowa winning this one 72-63.
