Miami Ohio vs Louisiana-Lafayette (-14) – 7:30 PM
The Miami (OH) RedHawks (8-5) will take on the UL-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns (10-3) in tonight’s LendingTree Bowl. Miami will head into this game after winning their final regular season game against Central Michigan 26-21. UL-Lafayette saw their six-game winning streak end after a loss to Appalachian State 45-38 in their regular season finally.
Miami (OH) put together a solid season that saw them get eight wins and finish the season winning six of their last seven games. However, their stats have not reflected their success. The RedHawks were just 97th in the country in points scored per game (24.69). They did not run the ball well at all this season (102nd) and they were even worse passing (114th). Their offense lacked big-play explosiveness as they were 118th in the country in yards per play. The Miami (OH) defense was slightly better at best. The RedHawks were below average in points allowed per game at 28.23 (71st). While they were decent at stopping the pass (35th), they weren’t so good against the run (81st).
UL-Lafayette had one of the best scoring offenses in the country this season. They were 10th in points scored per game (38.77) and they were a great run team. The Ragin’ Cajuns were the sixth-best rushing team in the country and their pass offense was average (62nd). Despite being such a run-heavy team, the Ragin’ Cajuns were sixth in the country in yards per play (7.05). The UL-Lafayette defense had a good season as well. They managed to allow just 19.92 points per game (20th) and they had a Top 20 pass defense.
The Ragin’ Cajuns are the better team on both sides of the ball. They are a very good scoring team and should have no issues against this below average Miami (OH) defense. The RedHawks offense will struggle most of this game and they will not be able to keep up with UL-Lafayette’s offense. Look for the Ragin’ Cajuns to come out of the gate strong in this one and never look back as they cover this high spread.
