#9 Baylor vs #22 Texas Tech (-3) – 9:00 PM
The Baylor Bears (11-1) put their 10-game winning streak on the line tonight against the Texas Tech Red Raiders (10-3) who have won their last five games as well.
For Baylor, this will be one of their toughest tests of the season. The Bears have already taken down three ranked opponents in Villanova, Arizona and Butler but this Texas Tech team provides a different challenge. Baylor’s offense has been good but not great this season. The Bears are 100th in the country in points scored per game (75.67) but they rank outside of the Top 200 in FG% (43.4). However, they have been a solid three-point shooting team as they are 72nd in the country at over 36%. Like the Red Raiders, the Bears are a defensive team. Baylor is 11th in the country in points allowed per game (58.9) and they are in the Top 100 in opponent FG%, 3PT% and FT%.
Texas Tech may not be as good as they were last season when they made it to the National Championship but they have proven this season that they are still a very good team. The Red Raiders offense has done well this season as they are 74th in points per game (76.9), 100th in FG% (45.6) and 29th in FT% (76.2). Their defense isn’t as dominant as it was last season, but it is still a very good defense. Texas Tech is 45th in the country in points allowed per game (62.2) and 50th in opponent FG% (39.2).
This will be a tough test for both teams as it is an early Big 12 battle amongst some of the conference’s best teams. At home, Texas Tech is in a good spot here to take down a high-ranked Baylor team. This should be a close game throughout but I expect the Red Raiders to pull away late with some better defensive play in key situations and some clutch free-throws. The NCAAB formula agrees as it predicts a 69-63 Texas Tech victory.
