Legal sports betting in Illinois will be live in time for March Madness after a long wait. After passing a massive gambling bill back in June of last year, Illinois has been slow to roll out legal sports betting. Now, according to a statement obtained by 13 WREX from Governor JB Pritzker’s press secretary, Illinois will have sportsbooks open in time for the start of March Madness.
Three casinos have already been issued temporary sports betting operating permits so far, Rivers Casino in Des Plaines, Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin and Argosy Casino in Alton. While no official date has been set for when sports betting will begin in Illinois, the first game of March Madness is Tuesday, March 17th.

Tulsa vs Houston (-10.5) – 9:00 PM
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane (17-8) take on the Houston Cougars (20-6) tonight in Houston in a matchup of two teams in the top three of the AAC. Tulsa has now won their last two games after taking down South Florida 56-48. Houston saw their three-game winning streak end after losing to SMU 73-72 in OT on Saturday.
Tulsa has been one of the best defensive teams in the country but also one of the worst offensively. The Golden Hurricane are 230th in points scored per game while allowing the 40th-fewest points per game in the country. Tulsa shoots a respectable 44.6% from the field (124th) but struggles from three, hitting just 31.2% (291st). They have been slightly above average from the line this season, converting on 71.6% (147th). Tulsa has been one of the best teams in the country at holding opponents to low shooting percentages. They hold opponents to the 34th-lowest FG% and 16th-lowest 3PT%.
Houston is like Tulsa, they have an excellent defense, however, their offense is a far better than Tulsa’s. The Cougars are 122nd in points per game. They are just 203rd in FG%, 155th in 3PT% and a respectable 122nd in FT%. Houston is also one of the best rebounding teams in the country. Defensively, Houston is allowing the 31st-fewest points per game. The Cougars allow the 15th-lowest FG% and 35th-lowest 3PT%.
Both teams are excellent defensively but the Cougars are the only team that has a solid offense too. While Tulsa may be able to hold Houston under their average scoring total, the Golden Hurricane’s offense is not good enough for them to win this game. The Houston defense will play just as well as the Tulsa defense, most likely even better. The Cougars will win this game because of their offense and rebounding. Houston should get a cover in this game as well as the formula sees them winning this game 71-57.
