Pennsylvania (-2) vs Dartmouth – 7:00 PM
The Penn Quakers (13-8) take on fellow Ivy League opponent Dartmouth Big Green (9-14) tonight in Hanover. The Quakers have won six of their last seven games after taking down Yale 69-61 on Saturday. Dartmouth lost nine-straight games before winning their last two after defeating Cornell 75-53 on Saturday.
Penn’s offense ranks in the top 100 in the country in both points per game (74.2) and FG% (45.3%). Despite those solid numbers, the Quakers have a hard time from three (258th) and from the line (272nd). The Penn defense has had a rough time this season. They are 242nd in points allowed per game. They are above average in FG% allowed (138th) but below average defending the three (192nd).
Dartmouth is scoring the 33rd-fewest points per game in the country (64.7). While the Big Green doesn’t have the worst FG% in the country (160th), they are among the bottom-third of the country in 3PT% (249th) and FT% (299th). Dartmouth’s defense has been surprisingly good, allowing just 64.3 points per game (48th). However, they are just 133rd in FG% allowed and 157th in 3PT% allowed.
Dartmouth is one of the weakest offensive teams in the country and the only reason their defensive numbers are as impressive as they are is because of their slow tempo (301st). The Quakers are top 100 in tempo and their schedule has been more difficult than Dartmouth. Also, the Big Green’s few wins have come against some of the worst teams in the country. Penn won 54-46 against Dartmouth earlier this month and while it was an ugly offensive game for both teams, the Quakers should see a victory by a similar margin tonight. The formula sees a superior Penn team taking down a weak Dartmouth team 71-64.
