Los Angeles Chargers vs Denver Broncos
The Los Angeles Chargers (2-4) will take on fellow AFC West Denver Broncos (2-4) in what is essentially a must-win game for each team. The Chargers ended a four-game skid with a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last week 39-29. The Broncos saw their two-game win streak end last week when they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 43-16.
The Chargers and rookie quarterback Justin Herbert have done well offensively. Herbert has the Chargers offense up to fifth in the league in total offense (416.8 YPG) and in passing offense (281.3 YPG). However, they have struggled to turn drives into points as they are just 21st in points scored per game (24.8).
The Broncos offense hasn’t been very good statistically. Most of that is due to the fact that Drew Lock has missed essentially half of the season thus far. When playing, the Broncos offense is a completely different animal that is full of young talent and can move the ball well. Despite only scoring 16 points against the Chiefs last week, the Broncos totaled 411 yards.
Denver’s defense is also an underrated unit. Of the 43 points scored by Kansas City last week, only 29 were against the defense (14 points scored between an interception and a kick return for a touchdown). The Broncos totaled 411 yards in that game compared to just 286 for the Chiefs. Denver’s defense ranks middle of the pack in most major defensive categories. They are also the fourth-best unit at getting off of the field on third down (34.5%).
After a double-digit win for the Chargers and the Broncos getting blown out by the Chiefs, a lot of people will be looking to hop on the Chargers. However, the Broncos are a better team than the final score from last week would suggest. In what should be a close and hard-fought divisional game, the side to take is the Broncos and the points. At home, Denver should likely win this one outright.
