FanDuel To Be The Lone Sportsbook Taking Kentucky Derby Bets This Year

FanDuel Sportsbook App LogoA partnership between the Kentucky Derby and FanDuel Group makes FanDuel the only online sports betting app that will also take wagers on the major horse racing event.

FanDuel is very involved with this year’s Run for the Roses, as the platform’s streaming channel FanDuel TV is prepared to offer exclusive content on the event. With Kentucky sports betting coming soon, fans of both horse racing and major sporting events will soon be able to place wagers from one single account.

Kentucky Derby Bets Available With FanDuel Sportsbook With Partnership

The Kentucky Derby will take place on May 6th, 2023 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The event is the most popular in the world of horse racing, and a major day for bettors. With that in mind, FanDuel Group is the Official Sports Wagering Partner for the event, and will be the only mobile sports betting site allowing users to wager on the event.

Because FanDuel has a unified wallet between its online sportsbook, horse racing offerings, online casino, and daily fantasy sports platform, users can easily bet on the upcoming events at Churchill Downs from one single account. With this new Churchill Downs partnership, FanDuel will also be offering special bonuses for its users for the event.

Both Churchill Downs Racetrack President Mike Anderson and FanDuel Racing General Manager Andrew Moore expressed excitement for the partnership’s first year of the event.

FanDuel TV To Focus On Kentucky Derby Content

In addition to taking bets on the Kentucky Derby, FanDuel will also cover the event through its betting-focused channel FanDuel TV. The platform will report live from the event, providing exclusive analysis throughout the week leading up to the race.

Interviews with jockeys and coverage of final workout sessions will be featured in the leadup to the event. FanDuel TV itself was actually formerly TVG, a channel that focused exclusively on horse racing content. Horse racing experts such as Gabby Gaudet, Todd Schrupp, Scott Hazleton, Christina Blacker, Mike Joyce, and Simon Bray will appear on “FanDuel TV’s Coverage of Kentucky Derby Week”.

FanDuel TV is available with numerous cable television packages, while the streaming FanDuel TV+ app can be downloaded on Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire devices. Anyone with live FanDuel and TVG accounts can stream FanDuel TV+ for free.

Kentucky Sports Betting Is Coming Soon

Interestingly, while FanDuel is the only mobile betting app to allow for horse race wagering on the Kentucky Derby, sports wagering isn’t currently available in the state hosting the race. Kentucky sports wagering was officially legalized on March 31st, 2023 with Governor Andy Beshear’s signing of the sports betting bill HB 551.

With this step, the state’s sports wagering market can now launch between June 28, 2023 and December 28, 2023. Unlike many other areas, the legal betting age for Kentucky is expected to be 18 years of age or older, compared to 21 across the majority of the U.S. and 19 in Ontario.

FanDuel Sportsbook Online, alongside other sports betting operators like DraftKings Sportsbook, BetMGM Sportsbook, BetRivers Sportsbook, and Caesars Sportsbook, should be some of the first mobile sportsbooks available to bettors in the Bluegrass State.
