First Maryland Mobile Sportsbooks Could Be Caesars, Barstool, FanDuel, and BetMGM

A big focus in the world of wagering this year has been on the rollout of online sports betting in the state of Maryland. Although you can place bets at retail sportsbooks in the state, the process of fully launching mobile sports betting has been a difficult one.
However, there is some hope that Maryland sports fans will be able to place wagers right from their smartphones and tablets before the end of the year. If that’s the case, it appears that four of the biggest names in sports betting will be the first online sports betting sites available in the area. Let’s take a look at the four mobile betting apps that could debut in the Old Line State.
Four Top Sportsbooks Could Be The First To Launch In Maryland
While Maryland sports fans can still only place bets on sports in-person right now, there is hope that they’ll be able to place wagers fully online soon. According to betting writer Ryan Butler on Twitter, John Martin of Maryland Loto revealed that four major sportsbooks could launch in the state by end of the year at a webinar held by VIXIO GamblingCompliance.
The four mobile sportsbooks include the MGM Resorts International sports betting site BetMGM Sportsbook, the Caesars Entertainment betting site Caesars Sportsbook, the Penn National Gaming betting site Barstool Sportsbook, and the Flutter Entertainment betting site FanDuel Sportsbook.
FanDuel, Caesars, BetMGM and Barstool, which have opened retail sportsbooks at Maryland casinos, are among the mobile sportsbooks likeliest to go live early when online sports betting begins, (likely) by year's end, per Maryland Loto's John Martin at @GamblingComp webinar today

All Four Sports Betting Operators Already Have Retail Betting Spots
All four of the potential first online sportsbooks are already active in the Maryland betting market, as all have in-person sportsbooks at different casino locations around town. The Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore currently hosts a physical Caesars Sportsbook. As you’d imagine, the BetMGM retail sportsbook is located at MGM National Harbor in Forest Heights. Meanwhile, the Live! Casino & Hotel in Hanover has a retail FanDuel Sportsbook.
And finally, Hollywood Casino in Perryville has a physical Barstool Sportsbook. It will be interesting to see if having these pre-established retail sportsbooks will help to speed up the process of launching betting apps in the state. If so, that’s great news for PointsBet Sportsbook and BetRivers Sportsbook, both of which also have in-person betting available at different casino locations around Maryland.

When Will Maryland Launch Online Sports Betting?
There is still a chance that online sportsbooks could be available in Maryland before 2023. Dating back to June, state governor Larry Hogan has been looking to speed up the rollout of mobile sports betting in the state. While Logan originally wanted a September 8th launch date to coincide with the 2022 NFL season, that date has come and gone. In late September, it was announced that, due to the Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commision’s rolling basis strategy for betting licenses, some sports betting apps could launch in the last two months of the year.
With the Commission planning to review different licenses on October 21st, it will be interesting to see if the aforementioned sports betting platforms launch before the end of the year. If they do, fans of teams like the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Commanders will be ecstatic to conveniently place bets on their local teams.
