clemson tigersWe are now a little over a month into the college football season. The Big Ten and PAC-12 will soon be entering the College Football Playoff picture as their seasons are set to begin in the coming weeks. With the COVID-19 altered season, Power 5 conferences are only playing in-conference games this season. For teams like Clemson, this is beneficial to them more than to teams like Florida, Alabama, and Georgia, who play in much tougher conferences and therefore have tougher schedules.

Alabama has looked stellar on offense despite the departure of their starting QB, two best WRs, and other components. Their defense, however, looks to be a bit of a liability. The Crimson Tide defense was exposed in their game against Ole Miss, allowing 31 points. Georgia is off to a 3-0 start and looking as good as any team in the country right now. They have a game coming up against Alabama this weekend. After this contest, we will know which team is the alpha in the SEC this year.

In the Big Ten, the one team likely to make the CFP appears to be Ohio State. While Penn State, Wisconsin, and Michigan are certainly in the mix, the Buckeyes are the favorites to come out of the Big Ten as champions. In the PAC-12, Oregon and USC are the favorites but neither is really expected to make the CFP this season.

The best team in the country comes out of the ACC. Clemson has proven that they deserve the #1 spot in the country. After allowing just 36 points in their first three games of the year, which included two solid teams in Wake Forest and Virginia, the Clemson Tigers dismantled the #7 Miami Hurricanes 42-17 this past week to move to 4-0. Even head coach Dabo Swinney has said that this might be the best defense he has ever had, which is saying something considering the talented defenses he has had in the past. Mix that elite defense with an offense that features two Heisman candidates in QB Trevor Lawrence and RB Travis Etienne and you have a clear favorite for National Champion.

So while Ohio State and one or two SEC teams (Alabama and Georgia) should join Clemson in the CFP, the Tigers are the clear team to beat right now. They are the clear favorites right at DraftKings Sportsbook but for a $50 free bet, taking the Tigers to win it all this year is certainly a smart bet. While the odds are likely to change between now and the DraftKings’ official launch date (likely November 1st), Clemson +175 is too good to pass up.

Pick: Clemson +175
