Gov. DeSantis Signs Sports Betting Bill In Florida

Florida has been making some noise in the sports betting world of late as they have had talks with Florida tribes and among legislators to allow sports betting in the state. Now a series of sports gambling-related measures have been approved by Governor Ron DeSantis. There is a lot to break down within today’s events, as online betting, who can operate, and who will oversee are still being discussed.

Seminole Tribe’s New Compact

A new compact has been agreed upon between the Florida government and Seminole State Tribe. They are going to be able to add roulette and craps tables to their casinos for the next 30 years. Also, under the agreement, Seminole Tribe casinos could begin allowing sports wagering, both retail and online. DeSantis also signed a bill allowing jai alai frontons, dog tracks, and a harness racing track in Miami-Dade and Broward counties to keep operating slots and card rooms without holding live events.

Who Could Operate In Florida?

DraftKings and FanDuel continue to be the big sportsbooks dueling it out in most states, and Florida would be no different. It is a bit unclear as to how many operators could join Florida, as the Seminole tribe could be allowed to have multiple skins. They could also exclusively run their own sportsbook, so there is still a lot on the table. One thing is for certain is that the state will get a share of the revenue from the casinos and sportsbooks. Servers will also need to be included on the property.

When Can You Place Bets?

Under the agreement, October 15th seems to be the date to allow sports betting and all the other games that fall under the new compact. While most state launches shoot for before the NFL season begins, Florida would cut out a month and a half of strong revenue. Dates could always change, but it seems the 15th of October is when you can expect to place your wagers.
