Haason Reddick Super Bowl MVP odds are . When the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, we will crown the well-deserved champion after a season-long effort. Not only will we have a new Super Bowl champion, but we will have a Super Bowl MVP as well. Eagles defensive end Haason Reddick is one of the few defensive plays with a chance to win the award. In what is a typical quarterback driven award, can a defenseman take home the hardware?
Haason Reddick Super Bowl MVP Odds
Arguably the most important addition to the Eagles this season, a season that includes AJ Brown, Haason Reddick has been an absolute game changer for their defense. He has wreaked havoc in the backfield all season long, finishing the year with 16 sacks. Sacks will be crucial should he want to win the MVP, essentially the same importance as touchdowns to an offensive player.
While history does not tend to favor defensive players, it doesn’t mean that Reddick’s hopes are dashed as linebackers have fared fairly well. Von Miller was the latest to do so in Super Bowl 50, finishing the game with 2.5 sacks and six tackles.
It will be a tall task to do the same as the Chiefs offense is once again the best in the league, especially through the air. They have a respectable offensive line and Patrick Mahomes is expected to come into this one healthy. Should Reddick be able to do the same as Von Miller, then his chances of bringing home the award are pretty decent.
How Haason Reddick can win the award
His path to winning the award is simple, get to Patrick Mahomes and bring him down to the ground. Easier said than done as Mahomes is the best quarterback in the league and can still make a play while scrambling. Even on one foot he was capable of carving up the Bengals defense, now expected to be far healthier with extra rest.
Still, Reddick has excelled at generating pressure to the backfield and can do the same in this matchup. He has been a man possessed as of late, recording nine and a half sacks in his last six games with two of them including the postseason.
The narrative factor is also on his side as Reddick’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Once a walk on to Temple, now leading the Eagles defense to a potential Super Bowl win. If he can record three sacks, as well as fill up the sheet with tackles, then you can expect his name to be high up on the list.
How Haason Reddick cannot win the award
The harsh reality is that history is not on his side as this is an award dominated by offensive players. Especially at quarterback with the Eagles having one of the most exciting dual threat quarterbacks in the league. On the bright side when a defenseman does win it, it’s usually a linebacker.
It also does not help that the Chiefs offense is unlike anything the Eagles have faced as of late, as well as Andy Reid having ample time to prepare an offensive scheme that may negate the Eagles strengths.
The Eagles had one of the more friendly schedules of the season and an easy path through the playoffs. Not to say this takes away anything from their defense, but it is worth mentioning to help temper expectations.
Having to put up a respectable stat line against the best offense in the league is a hard enough feat of its own, let alone having to play at a higher level than Jalen Hurts who is poised to put up video game type numbers against a weak Chiefs defense.
Verdict
Reddick’s journey to this point has been nothing short of remarkable, giving some narrative bonus points for his MVP chances. Sadly, history is not on his side and the Chiefs offense is unlike anything the Eagles have seen this year. This is a pass for me.
