NFL Week 9 Thursday Night Football Best Bet

Green Bay Packers vs San Francisco 49ers

green bay packersThe Green Bay Packers (5-2) will take on the San Francisco 49ers (4-4) this Thursday, in a rematch of last year’s NFC Championship Game. Both teams are coming off of losses to division rivals. The Packers lost last week to the Minnesota Vikings 28-22. The 49ers lost to the Seattle Seahawks 37-27.

Both teams will enter this Thursday Night Football game missing key players. For the 49ers, it is a little more severe.

The Packers will be missing backup running back Jamaal Williams, third-string back A.J. Dillon, and LB Kamal Martin due to COVID issues. Green Bay could also be without starting running back Aaron Jones due to injury. If that is the case, Tyler Ervin and Dexter Williams will be handling the ball-carrying duties.

The 49ers’ defense was decimated with injuries early in the year, particularly on defense. Aside from Nick Bosa, the 49ers lost a handful of other key defensive players for multiple weeks. Offensively, the Niners have been short on running backs all season due to injury. Now, they will be without both quarterback Jimmy Garappolo and tight end George Kittle for about two months.

While San Francisco is the more banged-up team, their offense should still move the ball well against a terrible Packers’ rush defense. For Green Bay, they may have failed to add weapons at the trade deadline but this is still one of the best offenses in football. If Aaron Jones doesn’t play, the Packers still have plenty of faith in Ervin and/or D. Williams to carry the load.

Green Bay will be looking for a heavy dose of passing in this game. Even if Jones does play, Green Bay won’t want to push him too hard. While the Packers should be moving the ball quickly through the air, the Niners will likely be doing the same on the ground. Despite their injuries, they should be able to run the ball with ease as they march up and down the field.

Don’t let injuries keep you from betting the Over in this one. Green Bay’s rush defense is terrible and their offense will be looking to put up a big game to justify their management not bringing in some help at the trade deadline. We may even seem some quick defensive scores in this game. Either way, expect a high-scoring game that goes over the total.

Pick: Packers/Niners Over 51.5
