Jets QB Wins One Bettor $125,000

Especially during football season, it seems like we always see a story about a longshot parlay hitting or a future with long odds cashing out. After all, it was only a little over a month ago that we saw one bettor’s $25 NFL parlay to win $727,000 ride completely on the Detroit Lions heading into Monday Night Football. Needless to say, that one didn’t go quite as the person would have wanted. Well, one bettor had a career weekend in NFL betting thanks to an unlikely passing leader on the day. Let’s see how a Jets QB debut helped one sports bettor cash a major ticket.

Bettor Cashes Huge Ticket on Jets QB

new york jetsWhen Jets starting QB Zach Wilson went down with an injury last week, expectations for New York began dropping even lower. The team had suffered a 54-13 thrashing by the division rival New England Patriots and were forced to put in young passer Mike White. The QB, who played college ball at Western Kentucky, had never started a game in his career, and had to face a red-hot Cincinnati Bengals team on Sunday. White ended up having a day for the ages, throwing for 405 yards and three touchdowns in a major upset win. Not many bettors believed in White going in, except for one individual who was looking at a major payday.

An anonymous business owner in his mid-30s placed a major bet last Friday. The bettor from northern New Jersey placed $1,000 on Jets QB Mike White to lead the league in passing for Week 8 of the NFL season. The odds for the prop were +12500, with only a small handful of quarterbacks facing longer odds. However, the faith in the new Jets starter paid off, as Mike White outplayed every other QB to cash the ticket.

Not the Smoothest Sailing

There was no shortage of hurdles when it came to this bet. White missed a series in the third quarter after sustaining a head injury, although he ended up returning shortly after. The next closest passer behind White was Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady, who passed for 375 yards against the New Orleans Saints and had the chance at a late drive to push his yards over. Additionally, the anonymous bettor had to sweat out the Monday Night Football game between the New York Giants and Kansas City Chiefs. With two shaky defenses, either Daniel Jones or Patrick Mahomes had the opportunity to air it out, but the top passer on the night was Mahomes with 275 yards.

What’s Next For White?

Needless to say, the numbers will probably shift for passing leaders quite a bit in this upcoming slate of games. White and the Jets face a short week, squaring off with the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday Night Football. He might have a bit more of a difficult time this week, as the Colts are allowing just 243.6 passing yards per game. Time will tell if another bettor sees a big payday thanks to Mike White’s arm.
