Less Than Half of Residents Support Minnesota Sports Betting

A recent survey on the future of Minnesota sports betting yielded some interesting results. However, while legal sports wagering has become wildly popular in other U.S. states, it doesn’t appear to have as much support in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Here’s what you need to know about the future of Minnesota sports wagering.

Less Than 50% Of Minnesotans Approve Of Legal Sports Betting

A recent poll was conducted by Minnesota Public Radio, KARE 11, and Star Tribune looked to see how Minnesota residents viewed a potential sports betting market. According to Sports Handle, approximately 48% of those surveyed are on the side of legal sports betting.

This number seems surprisingly low, especially when you consider the popularity of professional teams in the state like the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Timberwolves.

The survey also showed that 33% were not in favor of legal betting of any kind in Minnesota. Meanwhile, 19% of those polled are currently undecided on the matter of legalizing Minnesota sports betting.

When Will Minnesota Sports Betting Launch?

As it stands right now, neither online sports betting or retail sports betting are available in Minnesota. However, that doesn’t mean there haven’t been attempts to roll out legal betting. There are currently 11 tribes located in the area that operate nine different casino locations.

The tribes have concerns over the potential availability of online sports betting in Minnesota, as they believe it could potentially take away from other gaming activities. However, things are looking brighter for the future of MN betting, as the Minnesota Indian Gaming Commission has begun to collaborate with legislators in the state. This means there’s some hope for legal gambling in the state, although more details likely won’t materialize until next year.

Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins Looking For The Postseason

The Minnesota Vikings started the 2022 NFL season off strong, with a 23-7 win over the division rival Green Bay Packers. New head coach Kevin O’Connell was expected to push the offense further in his first year with the team, which is looking to be the case after his team put up 395 yards on the Green Bay defense.

The team takes on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football in a showdown of potential NFC playoff teams. The Vikings are currently 2.5-point underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook.

The Minnesota Twins, on the other hand, are battling for a Wild Card spot as numerous AL teams, such as the Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners, and Tampa Bay Rays. The team has the opportunity to go on a run, with upcoming series against the Kansas City Royals, LA Angels, Chicago White Sox, and Detroit Tigers.

It definitely won’t be easy with so much competition in the American League, but Twins fans are hoping that a strong finish from stars like Carlos Correa and the return of Byron Buxton could fuel a playoff push. FanDuel currently lists the team at +50000 to win the World Series.
