The Chanticleers, victors of 26 straight, took care of Louisville and will attempt to win their first title since 2016. LSU-Coastal Carolina Odds: How Did We Get Here?
Entering the college baseball campaign, the Tigers were among the initial contenders at +750 and began the CWS tournament at +650. They were shortened to +225 before upending betting favorite Arkansas twice in Bracket 2. The Chanticleers were priced as a +10000 longshot in February and saw their odds shift near +2500 at the start of the College World Series.
LSU Rightfully Favored Among College World Series Odds?
According to the odds tables above, LSU is a smaller favorite to win Saturday’s Game 1 than it is to claim the title. Sophomore Kade Anderson (3.44 ERA in 110.0 IP) will likely start for the Tigers, lined at -175 (63.3% implied probability) to take a 1-0 series lead. The 6-foot-2 southpaw was dominant in LSU’s first victory versus Arkansas, limiting the Razorbacks to just three hits and one run over seven brilliant innings.
Although these teams will enter the College World Series with two days to prepare for the opposition, Coastal Carolina has a slight rest advantage, playing just nine innings since Monday. Senior Riley Eikhoff (2.98 ERA in 84.2 IP) will presumably take the ball for the Chanticleers in Game 1.
The 5-foot-10 right-hander yielded three runs to Louisville while generating four strikeouts. Eikhoff has allowed just three or fewer runs in eight of his last nine outings.
With Anderson on the bump and LSU relying on its stellar defense throughout the season, I believe the Tigers are fairly priced in the outright and Game 1 betting market. Between the two, I’d prefer to bet on Jay Johnson’s club to win the opening affair.
