The trade deadline is upon us, and any starting pitching scratches could result in no action. Just keep an eye over the next few days. As for last night, Giants-Phillies was a mediocre offensive game that didn’t hit the over. Boston and Tampa also failed to go under, but David Price did hit his strikeout prop. Jake Odorizzi fell one strikeout short of his prop, giving us a 1-3 night. The total record is now 22-19.

This game is fairly close in terms of odds, as the Phillies are just -132 home favorites, but the spread we get some plus money in a good spot. Neither of these arms have been particularly good this season, and I value the Phillies offense much higher in this spot. Jeff Samardzija has a 4.96 xFIP on the year, and struggles a bit more with home runs on the road as you’d imagine. Samardzija may look worse off against lefties, which he is, but right-handers have been rather unlucky against him. Philadelphia is 32-23 at home this season, and the Phillies have averaged 5.4 runs per game compared to 3.3 on the Giants side in the last ten meetings. Philadelphia is 3-0 in the last three starts for Vince Velasquez. A team desperate for wins, the Phillies should take care of business tonight.
Minnesota Twins -1.5 @ Miami Marlins

The Twins edged out a 2-1 last night, and have been a strong road team this year. ATS on the road, they are 30-24, and just 34-20 in general on the road. They are an even 5-5 ATS against National League teams, but are clearly the better team in this spot. Jose Berrios comes into tonight’s game allowing five earned runs over his last three starts, and is in a great spot against one of the worst offenses in the game. Sandy Alcantara isn’t a bad arm, but has allowed 12 ER over his last three starts. He will face one of the toughest offenses in baseball, even if they lose the DH. Twins are a big road favorite, but I will take better odds against the spread where we can get a more optimal payout.
Jacob deGrom Over 8.5 K’s

I was looking at the Mets last night, but there was uncertainty around Noah Syndergaard. He is going to end up staying in New York, and the great thing is he struck out 11. Syndergaard has had a tough time putting away hitters, unlike Jacob deGrom who is in the same enticing matchup. He has an 8.5 strikeout prop against one of the more strikeout prone teams in baseball. The Chicago projected lineup has a 23.3% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. deGrom sits with a 31% strikeout rate, and hitters have a 69% contact rate. deGrom has had four July starts, tallying 9, 10, 6, and 10 strikeouts.
