MLB Daily Pennsylvania Pitch 8/2/19: FanDuel Sportsbook Betting Odds & Analysis
Contents
It was another 2-1 night, as the Rays-Sox game hit the over, and the Braves covered in a shortened game. The total record is now 26-21. Looking ahead at tonight, the Phillies are home against the White Sox. The Pirates will welcome the Mets, who they just played earlier in the week. There are some storms hovering around the easy coast, but nothing threatening any sort of PPD.
Chicago White Sox @ Philadelphia Phillies Over 10
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: -110
I’m not quite sure what the Phillies will expect from Jason Vargas, but slipping into regression should be on their radar. He has an xFIP over five, doesn’t miss many bats, and both sides of the plate can hit him. On the other side, we mostly know what to expect from Ivan Nova. He has a 4.64 xFIP and has allowed over a .360 wOBA to both sides of the plate. He also has allowed a .191 ISO to righties and a .213 ISO to lefties. The strikeout rate is poor and he takes on a powerful Phillies offense. The over has been a winner in four of the last six games, and while these teams don’t play often, 9 of the last 13 between the two. Both offenses match up well against opposing arms, and Citizens Bank is a strong ballpark for hitters.
Seattle Mariners @ Houston Astros -1.5
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: -152
Chances are you will need to bet most of the spreads to get a better payout for Houston. They are huge home favorites, and that is the case. -152 to cover the spread are solid odds given the circumstances. They are 38-15 at home, and 27-26 at home ATS. Houston are also 23-7 against left-handed pitching, while the Mariners are 12-22. The offenses are on opposite ends of the spectrum against left-handed pitching this season. Seattle is 1-9 in the last ten games against Houston, averaging 4.4 runs per game, compared to 5.4 of Houston. Wade Miley has pitched well against Seattle, and Houston won each game. The Astros have been solid money at home, and these two teams are on complete opposite ends of the standings. With the difference in lefty offenses, Houston should run through this one.
San Diego Padres @ Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +114
Vegas isn’t as high on Los Angeles, and it might be because the MLB debut of Dustin May. The young right hander is a solid prospect deserving of a major league start. San Diego’s projected lineup has a .326 wOBA and 26% strikeout rate against right-handers on the year. He isn’t a strikeout arm, but limits damage and has a good groundball rate. The Dodgers are 23-12 against left-handed pitching, and the lineup last night was ideal for facing lefties with A.J. Pollock back. San Diego has won just 5 games in the last 18 against Los Angeles. Plus money on the Dodgers spread is where you should be headed tonight.
