MLB Daily Pennsylvania Pitch 8/20/19: FanDuel Sportsbook Betting Odds & Analysis

It was not a good day for the favorites of the American League. The Twins failed to cover, let alone win, and the same goes for Houston against Edwin Jackson. The lone win was the Rangers-Angels game easily hitting the over. This brings us to a  54-38-1 record. We look to bounce back on a full slate of games, and the only weather concern is out on Cincinnati and Baltimore. It doesn’t look like any PPD chances, but some storms could cause delays.

Philadelphia Phillies Moneyline

philliesFanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +100

The Phillies make a rare trip to Fenway Park where they are plus against Brian Johnson with Aaron Nola on the hill for themselves. While the Red Sox offense has been terrific this season, this is a pretty big difference in pitching matchups. Nola has been solid in the second half with a 3.09 ERA and 27.5% strikeout rate. Brian Johnson hasn’t pitched more than three innings in his last three starts, before turning it over to a mediocre Sox bullpen. The historical numbers are too far back to go with either of these teams from that sense, as they only play each other every few years. However, the Phillies are 8-5 against American League teams, and Boston is 3-5.

Los Angeles Dodgers -2.5

dodgersFanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +108

The Houston alternate run line was a bust, but the Dodgers start off back at home against the Blue Jays and their young squad. They have Clayton Kershaw on the mound, who has ben in terrific form. He has allowed no more than two earned runs in a start since the end of June. He also has four starts in his last five where he has 9+ strikeouts. This projected lineup has a .310 wOBA and .158 ISO off left-handed pitching for Toronto, with a 22.6% strikeout rate. There is no reason for Kershaw to not have another strong start. Sean Reid Foley is making a start for Toronto, and in a small sample has struggled in 2019. He has struggled against lefties, and this is not the team to have those numbers against. He has allowed a .372 wOBA and .193 ISO. The Jays bullpen isn’t notable, and the Dodgers offense has an implied total of 5.6 runs.

Chicago White Sox @ Minnesota Twins Over 9.5

twinsFanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +100

The over is actually plus money here, which is somewhat of a surprise. Michael Pineda isn’t the worst arm in the world, but rarely goes through games unscathed. He takes on an offense that does struggle against right-handed pitching, but has still plenty of potential to get on the board via the long ball. That is something Pineda can serve up. Pineda is coming in with a strong second half start, but should allow a few runs. This is more about the Twins side of things, where they get to take on Reynaldo Lopez. He has over a 5.00 xFIP and ERA this season, and his 34.4% groundball rate isn’t appealing. He has only pitched against the Twins once this season, allowing eight earned runs. I will grab the over here while the weather is still on the warmer side in Minnesota.
