NBA Best Bets For Monday, Jan. 13

Check out four bets below for Monday’s NBA games.

Rudy Gobert Double-Double (+105 DraftKings) & 25+ Points + Rebounds (+145 DraftKings)

Washington’s putrid defense struggles mightily to protect the paint and subsequently allows the sixth-most points per game at the rim in the NBA. To be more specific, rollers average the second-most points per game across the league versus the Wizards, while cutters check in at the fourth-most points per game.

Meanwhile, Washington gives up the fourth-highest offensive rebound rate largely because rookie Alexandre Sarr isn’t strong enough to physically battle centers.

Meanwhile, 83.5% of Rudy Gobert’s total points this season have come from rolls, cuts, or put-backs, and he’s one of the top rebounders in the NBA. Gobert is set up for a monster night.

His history is also worth emphasizing. The veteran has played Washington four times since being traded to Minnesota. Check out his stats in those four matchups:

  • 19 points, 7 rebounds
  • 17 points, 19 rebounds
  • 19 points, 16 rebounds
  • 19 points, 16 rebounds

Granted, the rosters have changed a bit, but the Wizards have struggled to handle Gobert’s archetype for the past few seasons. It’s a different game in terms of the exact depth charts but a similar situation tonight.

Overall, Washington is giving up the most points plus rebounds per game to opposing centers of any team in the league. I would play his double-double at one unit and his points plus rebounds alternate line at one unit.

Memphis Grizzlies +3.5 (-108 FanDuel)

I expect Memphis to keep it close for a few reasons despite Ja Morant potentially being sidelined with an illness.

First, Houston is a poor outside shooting team that ranks 29th in 3-point percentage, and Jabari Smith Jr.’s injury only makes the situation worse. That’s tough to overcome because the Grizzlies boast an elite interior defense led by Jaren Jackson Jr. and Zach Edey. Therefore, the Rockets must rely on streaky shooters like Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks more than usual, which is hardly a confidence booster.

Second, Houston’s elite defense takes a considerable hit with Smith Jr. out and Tari Eason doubtful, especially since they would be the primary defenders against Jackson Jr. Those injuries also hand the depth advantage to Memphis.

Finally, the Rockets rank 29th in fourth-quarter offensive rating. They struggle to create good looks when the pressure ramps up, and Memphis’ excellent defense can turn up the gas.

I recommend playing this at one unit.

Gradey Dick First Raptors Field Goal (+370 DraftKings)

Gradey Dick has taken Toronto’s first shot in 27.2% of his starts, which is the best rate of the Raptors starting lineup. He meets a Warriors defense that deters rim attempts yet bleeds catch-and-shoot looks — his specialty.

I suggest playing the line at half of a unit.
