With only 1 game on the NBA slate we are only able to play “Showdown Captain Mode” where you select one player who cost 1.5x their regular salary but they get you 1.5x the FPTS.
Damian Lillard ($18,600) vs Nuggets– Lillard was great in game 1 vs the Nuggets scoring 39 PTS on 57% shooting but he didn’t shoot his best from behind the arc going 4/12. He has shown to be better than that and not wanting to go down 2-0 I think he will be letting it fly again. His 6 TOs were a bit high for my liking but in a fast paced game like it was you have to live with those. It was hard to pick Lillard as my “captain” over Jokic but Jokic’s price is almost at $20,000 and despite his great play I think the Blazers are going to have to double him when he touches the ball. Overall I think Lillard will be great like he has been all playoffs.
Al-Farouq Aminu ($5,600) vs Nuggets– Aminu struggled in game 1 going 1/5 from the field with 2 PTS and 8 REB. As we discussed yesterday I love players who don’t have their best outings in game 1 to bounce back and it worked out with Clint Capela. Aminu isn’t on his level but he has much more to offer than what he showed in game 1. Lillard and McCollum can’t carry the whole load so I expect Aminu to hit some more of his open looks, especially from 3 tonight in Denver.
Paul Millsap ($8,000) vs Trail Blazers– PaulMillsap pretty much got whatever he wanted in game 1 vs an undersized Blazers team. Portland just lacks the size to match up with him and if Denver continues to feed him which I expect they will he should have a good shot at repeating his game 1 performance. Millsap doesn’t quite have 3 point range but his ability to shoot from the mid-range makes it a problem for him to be guarded by pretty much SF’s the entire game. Look for Millsap to continue to be aggressive in this matchup.
Rodney Hood ($3,000) vs Nuggets– Rodney Hood stepped up in game 1 scoring 17 PTS off the bench. With the Blazers lack of playmaking off the bench Hood is going to be the guy that needs to make things happen if they want to be successful. Hood is a streaky shooter so if there is going to be any game he continues to play well it is this one. At only $3,000 with 1 game on the slate I see no issue on using a flyer pick on Rodney Hood.
