Point Guard
Trae Young ($8,600) vs Knicks- The Hawks didn’t come away with a victory in game 2 but Trae Young was excellent once again for his Atlanta squad. In his first two career playoff games, he is now averaging 31.0 PPG 8.5 APG, and 4.0 RPG while shooting over 50% from the field and from 3. Trae has been on another level in the playoffs and the ease at which he is scoring is encouraging. His teammates struggled to hit shots in game 2 and I expect that to change so I think we could see another double-double for Trae as we saw in game 1 of this series as the Hawks head home.
Shooting Guard
Reggie Bullock ($4,900) vs Hawks- Reggie Bullock has quietly been a very effective piece for the Knicks and he has looked good in their recent games. He has scored over 24 FPTS in 4 of the Knicks last 5 games and he has proven to be one of the best 3 point shooters in the game. After a rough game 1 he bounced back in game two with 4 threes and 4 rebounds. That’s about all you can expect from Bullock but as long as he is hitting his shots he can return value for fantasy owners are a fair price of $4,900.
Small Forward
Evan Fournier ($6,200) vs Nets- Evan Fournier comes into this game with 10 straight appearances with no less than 21.75 FPTS but we have also seen him erupt for 30+ on multiple occasions. With Jaylen Brown out we were expecting to see a little more from Fournier in this series but it hasn’t come. However, he did hit his shots in game 2 going 5/9 with 4 threes but he didn’t get a lot of shots up. Boston has very little chance to win this series but we are going to have to see some bigger games from Evan Fournier and company if they want to stay competitive. Look for Fournier to be more aggressive and show the flashes that we saw from him near the end of the regular season.
Power Forward
John Collins ($6,500) vs Knicks- John Collins scored a grand total of 0 points in game 2 while racking up 5 fouls and being limited to 15 minutes. It was an all-around awful game for the PF, but I expect things to change in game 3. In game 1 he shot the ball well and was active on the glass putting up 12 PTS and 7 REB. He only got 9 shots in that game, which is down from his average, but it was good to see them falling. Trae is going to need some help and big men for Atlanta are going to have to be the ones in my opinion. The recent play hasn’t been the most encouraging but in a playoff setting the best players rise to the top and I think we see that from Collins tonight.
Center
Clint Capela ($7,700) vs Knicks- Another reason for the Hawks offensive struggles in game 2 was the lack of opportunity for Clint Capela. Capela still scored 30.5 FPTS because of his 5 BLKs but he was limited to 2/5 from the floor. That is a big step down from his usual 14.9 PPG and even down from the 9 points he scored in game 1. Capela is pretty much limited to scoring on put-backs and lobs from Trae Young but he has made up for that with his defense. He has 7 blocks so far in this series and in 5 games vs the Knicks this season he is averaged 2.2 BPG and almost 1 SPG. Capela is a double-double machine so with 2 games without one, I think we are due to see it sooner rather than later.
Sleeper Play
Taj Gibson ($3,800) vs Hawks- Taj Gibson is dirt cheap tonight at only $3,800, but I think he is playing better than a lot of the guys priced above him. In the 2 games of their series vs the Hawks Gibson is averaging 5.5 PPG 8.0 RPG 1 BPG and 2.0 SPG. That is good for 23.8 FPPG and the floor is relatively high with his ability to crash the glass in every game. Gibson has also been playing a lot, 24 and 30 minutes in each of the 2 games thus far. The ceiling for Taj is extremely low but if you can find a guy at under $4,000 putting up solid numbers I wouldn’t hesitate. I have a lot of Knicks/Hawks players in my lineup so we can only hope that the offense picks up after a rough game 2.
