FanDuel‘s single game slate offers up a unique way to play still in the NBA playoffs. There are rules to this one. Your MVP spot gets you 2x points. Your Star spot gets 1.5x points, and the Pro spot gets 1.2x points. The rest of the utility picks get 1x like normal. There are a total of five spots to fill between tonight’s game.
MVP
Stephen Curry ($15,500) – Stephen Curry scored 34 points in Game one, but also tallied five assists and five rebounds. His steal and block potential is fairly limited, but overall he has some of the highest upside as usual. Curry led all players in usage for Game 1 on both sides, and had a 70.4 TS%. He was a liability on defense, and as expected deferred some assists to Draymond Green. Curry in the MVP spot makes sense in this game, especially given many will look towards Siakam or other options.
Star
Klay Thompson ($12,500) – The usage rate was at 22.5% in Game 1 for Klay Thompson, which was down about 7% from his usage in the Portland series. There are going to be tough matchups all around for this Golden State side, and Thompson will be a focus for the Raptors defense. Thompson’s shooting looked better in Game 1, and I still feel that breakout Klay game is coming. Tough draws against Leonard and Green, but I expect much better looks for the Warriors this time around. Thompson is jammed in with Green, Lowry, and Siakam, and I am curious if ownership changes around.
Pro & Utility
Marc Gasol ($10,000) – Marc Gasol led all Game 1 players that played over 20 minutes in offensive rating. He had a 15% rebound rate, and 5% assist rate. He also played with some decent pace. Gasol was a mismatch for the Warriors, and will continue to be. It is tough to see who can slow him down right now, especially with the focus on so many surrounding options. Gasol’s price didn’t move, as he dropped 20 and 7 with a block and a steal. I am going right back to the well for Gasol. He is the best option for $10,000 or cheaper in my opinion.
Fred VanVleet ($8,500) – The same goes for Fred VanVleet, who didn’t have a price bump or drop. He played 33 minutes, and expect them to do more of the same as his defense has been on the rise against Golden State. He scored 15-1-2 last game, but no defensive stats lowered his production total a bit. He had a 70 TS% in Game 1, and his role is going to continue to slow down Curry in the backcourt. At $8,500 he is a strong play in all formats. There were some injury reports on Andre Iguodala, but everything came back clean. If you are looking to be different, you can use Iggy, or look at a Shaun Livingston or Alfonzo McKinnie who would pick up minutes if Iggy goes down again.
