NBA Player Prop Picks (5/14/23)
Find player prop best bets and predictions for Sunday afternoon’s game 7 between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers.
It’s the best two words in sports. Game seven.
The Celtics came into the second round of the playoffs as the title favorite, now sitting on the brink of elimination against a revitalized 76ers squad. James Harden has turned back the clock and has flashed his elite scoring ability while Joel Embiid has steadily dominated the interior as the league’s MVP. With the Celtics backs against the wall, expect a more spirted effort from their star players.
Check out our favorite player props from this dynamite slate below, including our in-depth analysis and reasoning for our picks!
Jaylen Brown o23.5 Points (-110)
With Jayson Tatum failing to get going early on in the scoring department the past few games of this series, the Celtics have had to rely on the scoring ability of Jaylen Brown. When Tatum runs cold, Brown steps up as the team’s clear-cut number two scoring option as he has a full arsenal of moves at his disposal.
Brown can not only take you off the dribble for a high-quality look at the rim, but he can also stop and pop for a pullup in the midrange. He gets the added advantage of the Sixers having to run a 2-3 zone, exposing the middle as the defense shifts over to either side of the court.
James Harden o8.5 Assists (-120)
When hope was looking bleak in game one when Joel Embiid was announced out, James Harden stepped up in a major way by dominating in the scoring department and leading them to victory. He seemingly found high quality shots at will with his ball handling ability, carving up the Celtics defense with ease.
Now that Joel Embiid is back and healthier than before, Harden has taken a back seat in the scoring department and let Embiid go to work in the interior. This all starts with screens at the top, either both crashing down or letting Embiid slip and taking his man one on one.
When not running a set for Embiid, Harden has opted into taking his man off the dribble and driving to the paint with intentions to kick it out to an open shooter. Maxey has transitioned into more of a scorer, setting aside his playmaking duties for a heavier usage rate in Harden’s facilitating.
Robert Williams o15.5 Points+Rebounds (-105)
Congrats to those who were on Robert Williams props earlier in the day, getting beautiful CLV on all his overs as they skyrocketed up after being announced in the starting lineup. This was in a desperate attempt to match Embiid’s size in the interior, clogging his paths to the basket as he attacked the middle.
Expecting more of the same for what worked for them in game six, Robert Williams should be in a very friendly position to clear this over. He has found himself in pick and roll situations with Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, taking advantage of a stretched-out interior to get high quality looks at the rim while crashing to the basket.
Not only crashing to the basket on the offensive end, but also making it clear that his goal is to limit Joel Embiid’s second chance scoring opportunities by being aggressive on the boards. Joel Embiid can tend to be passive for stretches at a time, limiting the physical exposure to his injured knee and allowing the defense to get the easy rebound.
