NFL Week 6 Betting Trends: Great Week to Back the Road Favorites

Week 6 of the NFL is here, which means we have teams on bye for the first time; this week, the Saints, Falcons, 49ers, and Jets will not be taking the field. However, there are several exciting matchups to watch, and you can get a full rundown of each game with my Week 6 Lines & Predictions article. In this article, I take a look at betting trends around the NFL this season and trends for the upcoming games. Hopefully, knowing recent history related to the upcoming games and betting results for the current season will help you make more intelligent and more successful bets. Let’s dive in.

Interesting Trends So Far

One of the most exciting betting trends so far has been the relative lack of success of home teams – they have gone just 39-41 straight up and 35-45 against the spread. Most people expected a return of fans to stadiums to lead to the opposite result, but that has not been the case so far. Home favorites have been particularly vulnerable in going 20-30 against the spread, although they have been 29-21 straight up.

I’m backing a handful of road favorites this week, and I feel decent about it, given they are 19-10 straight up and 15-15 against the spread so far. Underdogs crushed to start this season, but that trend has leveled out, and dogs went 7-9 against the spread in Week 5 to bring their record to 45-35 against the spread on the year.

Last week, I suggested not chasing the under trend as the under had hit in 57.8% of games heading into Week 5. The under went just 7-9 in Week 5, so I hope you heeded that advice. I have not been particularly successful in betting on the over-under this season, but there are a handful of games I’m targeting this week.
