NHL and PointsBet Announce Offical Partnership

The National Hockey League is looking to continue its role in the US sports betting industry, and this time, it gained equity in a partner. Earlier this week, the NHL announced an agreement with PointsBet, an Australian-based sports betting operator.
Through this deal, PointsBet will become an official sports betting partner of the NHL and will receive access to official league data and stats. This will improve the in-play betting options at PointsBet and will give customers a better overall experience.
This will also allow PointsBet to improve upon its current partnership with NBC Sports, a deal that was signed last August. The sports betting company is the official sports betting partner of NBC, and now it will be allowed to include official NHL data into those broadcasts and videos.
The NHL has named NBC the official broadcast partner of the league, and a Sunday morning featured matchup is shown each weekend. PointsBet has agreed to give the NHL more than 43,000 ordinary shares as a part of this deal.

PointsBet Continues to Expand
PointsBet was not heard of in the United States prior to 2019, but the company has seen tremendous growth since that time. After launching in the state of New Jersey in 2019, PointsBet can now be found in several markets throughout the United States.
Not only has PointsBet been expanding into other markets, but it has also made several recent deals and partnerships. PointsBet is an official sports betting partner of the PGA Tour and has agreed to deals with many professional sports teams.
In teaming up with the Detroit Lions last July, PointsBet became the first sports betting operator to strike a deal with a Major League Baseball team. Other partnerships have since been made, but it was PointsBet that started the trend.
Hockey Not Popular Betting Market
The NHL has embraced the growing sports betting market in the United States, even though betting on the sport is not extremely popular. By forming these partnerships, the league is hoping to increase the amount of betting action on the NHL, especially in some markets.
Michigan, Colorado, and Illinois are all home to popular NHL teams, and both PointsBet and the NHL will target hockey fans in these states. Football and basketball remain the two most popular sports to bet on in the US.
Odds to Win Stanley Cup
PointsBet Sportsbook released 2021 Stanley Cup champion betting odds before the season began, and those odds have been changed throughout the regular season. Even though betting on individual hockey games is not that popular, there is plenty of action on this future betting market.
The Vegas Golden Knights are currently +675 to win the Stanley Cup, followed by the Colorado Avalanche at +690. Both of these teams are in the Western Conference and would meet up in the conference finals.
The Tampa Bay Lightning (+710), Boston Bruins (+735), and Montreal Canadiens (+1100) round out the top five at PointsBet Sportsbook.
