Tuesday’s Anytime Goal Scorer Picks
- Mitch Marner
- Mark Stone
- Jackson Blake
Mitch Marner Anytime Goal Scorer
After failing to find the back of the net in his last six games, Mitch Marner was able to round back into form in a big way, scoring a hat trick in the Vegas Golden Knights win in game three of the Stanley Cup Finals. A performance that mirrored what Marner was able to do earlier in the playoffs, averaging 0.42 Expected Goals and 2.79 Shots on Goal per game.
Heading into game four, expect Marner to continue to light the lamp by taking advantage of Carolina’s regression on defense, giving up nearly four Expected Goals in their last contest. Especially with Marner’s linemates stretching out the Hurricanes back line with their versatility, opening up wider shooting lanes at multiple levels of the ice which will improve the quality of Marner’s Shots on Goal.
Mark Stone Anytime Goal Scorer
Since making his return from injury, Mark Stone has been able to instantly contribute, scoring a goal in three out of his last five starts against Colorado and Carolina while generating 0.25 Expected Goals per game. With Stone pressuring the net at a high rate, the Golden Knights have been efficient, ranking near the top of the board in Expected Goals For in All Situations.
With wear and tear starting to affect the Hurricanes speed on the ice, Stone will face minimal resistance in his efforts of weaving the puck through their stretched out coverage, leading to a higher volume of Shots on Goal in front of their net. To help diversify your risk, split a wager into four equal pieces and place each piece on Marner, Stone, Jack Eichel, and Pavel Dorofeyev to score the first goal as well.
Jackson Blake Anytime Goal Scorer
While Logan Stankoven and Andrei Svechnikov hog the spotlight, Jackson Blake has nearly rivaled their level of production in regard to pressuring the net, averaging 0.34 Expected Goals and 2.19 Shots on Goal per game. With Blake helping Carolina avoid suffering a drop off in production when their top line is off the ice, the Hurricanes have been dominant, leading the league in Expected Goals For.
Fortunately for Blake, he will have a great opportunity to keep the Hurricanes competitive against Vegas by attacking a back line who has also struggled to stay in front of the puck, ranking in the bottom half of the board in Expected Goals Against in 5-on-5 Play. Even with Carter Hart playing at a high level, the Hurricanes aggression will force the Golden Knights goalie to scramble across the ice, opening up larger gaps for Blake to exploit.
