Patriots vs. Jets Player Prop Picks

The New York Jets (1-1) host the New England Patriots (0-2) this Sunday (9/24/23) in what could be considered a must-win game for both teams from the AFC East. The two strong defenses in this matchup might create some interesting opportunities to bet the under on player prop bets.

Let’s take a look at the betting odds for player prop bets and pick some of our best Patriots vs. Jets player prop bets for this week 3 matchup.

Garrett Wilson over 47.5 receiving yards (-115 at BetMGM)

Even with two tough matchups and without Aaron Rodgers, Garrett Wilson has been finding ways to produce through the first two weeks. Last week against the vaunted Cowboys defense, he busted off a 68-yard touchdown in the 2nd quarter.

Last season, Wilson managed to put up huge numbers with every quarterback not named Zach Wilson. While Zach Wilson has not looked much better than last season so far, he has at least been showing better chemistry with his top pass catcher. Wilson has led the Jets in targets in each of the first two games.

This will be another tough matchup against a very good Patriots defense, but it’s no tougher than the Bills or the Cowboys, the Jets’ first two opponents this season. It will be fun to watch Wilson battle against Patriots 1st round pick Christian Gonzalez, who is their top cornerback and PFF’s 7th highest rated CB so far this season.

Even in what should be a defensive-oriented, low-scoring game, we expect Wilson to see enough volume to clear 47.5 receiving yards, which just seems like far too low a number. As we saw last week, he could only need 1 big play to make it happen, and he should have plenty of opportunities to do that.

Hunter Henry over 3.5 receptions (+135 at DraftKings)

The Patriots have quietly been one of the best passing offenses in the league through two weeks. They are currently 7th in the league in passing and are averaging the most pass attempts per game, which is not only because of matchups and game script. The early indicators on the pairing of Mac Jones with new offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien seem to be very positive for the Patriots’ aerial attack.

One of the beneficiaries of that is Hunter Henry, who has been one of Jones’ favorite targets so far this season. Henry leads the Patriots in catches and receiving yards after two games and is 4th in the league among tight ends in catches (11) and 7th in targets (13). Henry has caught at least 5 passes in each of his first two games this season.

The Jets have one of the best cornerback pairings in the league with Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed, who are going to make things tough for the Patriots’ wide receivers. That could funnel even more targets to Henry in this matchup. The Jets have allowed at least 4 catches to tight ends in both of their first two games (11 total). They also allowed the 5th most receptions by opposing tight ends last season (5.5 per game).

Henry is the best tight end the Jets have faced so far this season, and this matchup sets up for him to be very involved in the Patriots’ offense for the third consecutive week. At +135 odds at DraftKings (the best available as of this writing), that makes the over on 3.5 receptions look like a very appealing bet.
