Pennsylvania also closed out 2022 with a big December, seeing a handle over $754 million, which included approximately $71 million in revenue for a 9.4% hold. Part of this likely had to due with the playoff race heating up, as both the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers were battling for postseason positions.

The overall success of the state’s sports betting industry is due in part to the passionate fans in the state. Pennsylvania is home to some major professional teams, such as the Eagles, Steelers, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Philadelphia 76ers. College sports are also popular in the state, with teams like the Pittsburgh Panthers and Penn State Nittany Lions attracting action from bettors.

Retail sportsbooks are also available in various casinos throughout the state, with the FanDuel Sportsbook at Valley Forge Resort being one of the most popular. However, that’s just the tip of the iceberg, with other top in-person sportsbooks being the DraftKings Sportsbook at Hollywood Meadows, the BetRivers Sportsbook at Rivers Pittsburgh Casino, and the Caesars Sportsbook at Harrah’s Philadelphia.
