Pennsylvania Sports Betting Revenue: July 2019

July 2019 is the first month of the new fiscal year for Pennsylvania. July’s sports betting numbers will be the first month of sports betting for the new fiscal year. Online sports wagering has now been around in Pennsylvania for over two months. Major players are starting to enter the market now as FanDuel opened in July and DraftKings is working on launching in the near future. Online betting is already the preferred method for Pennsylvania bettors and those numbers should only increase in the long run.

SugarHouse is PA King, at Least For Now

SugarHouse Casino dominated sports betting in Pennsylvania for July 2019. The Philadelphia-based casino pulled in nearly $26.5 million in July. The next highest was Rivers Casino at $14.3 million. SugarHouse and Rivers both operate under Rush Street Gaming. Between the two, Rush Street accounted for more than $40 million of the state’s $59.3 million in handle for July, more than two-thirds. FanDuel was only in operation for a little over a week and still managed to put in more than $3 million in handle. Expect FanDuel to compete with SugarHouse during the month of August, possibly even taking over the top spot in Pennsylvania.

How PA Compares to NJ

There are a total of nine different casinos that took sports bets in July. Of those nine, only four had online betting available. Despite more than half of the state’s casinos with sports betting not having online available, the state still saw nearly two-thirds of its bets come online. New Jersey has been seeing online wagering account for 80% of its bets. With FanDuel now available, more bets in Pennsylvania should come from online betting. Of all four of the casinos with both retail and online betting, each one has seen at least half of their bets come online, with Parx Casino coming in at the lowest percentage (50.7%). FanDuel dominates the New Jersey market with DraftKings in second and the rest of the state way behind. FanDuel should take over the reins in PA soon enough, and once DraftKings enters, expect them to be near the top as well.
