PointsBet and Red Wings Partnership
It was announced earlier this week that the Detroit Red Wings and PointsBet have entered into a multi-year deal. PointsBet is now an official partner of the Red Wings, giving them access to loads of marketing material and exclusive offers.
One of the terms of the deal includes renaming a bar at the Little Ceasars Arena to PointsBet Sports Bar. It is unclear if you will be able to physically place bets at the bar, but mobile wagering is coming to Michigan. This means that you will be able to bet right then and there with the PointsBet application. Things that are confirmed to be at the bar are food, drink, live betting odds, and several televisions to watch the game on.
PointsBet Other Partners
This announcement comes several months after the Detroit Tigers announced that PointsBet would be their official sportsbook partner, and only a week after PointsBet and the Pistons announced their partnership. Currently, several bookmakers have deals in place with the Pistons, including both FanDuel and DraftKings. However, PointsBet is the only sportsbook to be in a deal with the Red Wings or the Tigers.
This is massive news for PointsBet as it is facing an uphill battle when it comes to name recognition and market share. Currently, FanDuel, BetRivers, and DraftKings are way ahead of the game in Illinois, and it is obvious that PointsBet did not want that to happen in Michigan. Following the lead from PointsBet Colorado, the sportsbook is making several deals and making its presence known to the bettors of the state.
What Do Partnerships Promise?
While nothing is guaranteed, it seems that the PointsBet deals with the Red Wings and Tigers will be exclusive for some time. This means that PointsBet will be allowed free reign when it comes to promotions and advertising on these Michigan sports teams.
One thing that we have seen out of PointsBet’s partnerships in other states is exclusive betting offers. For example, in Illinois, PointsBet promises the best lines on all Chicago Bears games. The sportsbook also offers exclusive boosted odds and other deals that you cannot get on other teams. In Colorado, PointsBet is partnered with the Denver Nuggets and offers exclusive new-user promotions where you can win massive amounts of cash. One would expect that the same kind of offers will be there for at least the Red Wings and Tigers, if not also the Detroit Pistons.
Following the Pistons deal, PointsBet also added another spokesperson in Rip Hamilton, a legend in the Detroit area. PointsBet has been working hard to not only secure deals with teams, leagues, and arenas but also signing up famous athletes and figures to promote its brand. All of this is is to create a sense of authority in the field of sports betting; PointsBet is not a household name like DraftKings or FanDuel, and it needs to work to get to that status in order to compete in these markets.
Michigan sports betting is currently live, but mobile wagering should start later this month. You will then be able to download the PointsBet app to bet on almost all major sports throughout the United States and world.
