Indianapolis Colts vs Chicago Bears

Chicago BearsThe Indianapolis Colts (2-1) take on the Chicago Bears (3-0) this Sunday at 1:00 PM EST. The Colts are coming off of a blowout win against the lowly New York Jets by a score of 36-7. The Bears are coming off of another dramatic come from behind against the Atlanta Falcons by a score of 30-26.

The Colts are a team that has an above-average offense to go along with one of the best defenses in the NFL. While they do have a solid backfield in Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines (despite losing Marlon Mack for the season), the Colts actually have a better passing offense that ranks ninth in the NFL. However, quarterback Philip Rivers is looking like his vintage self as he already has thrown three interceptions on the year to go along with just three touchdowns and a modest 794 yards.

The Bears offense got a shot in the arm this past Sunday as Nick Foles came in to replace Mitchell Trubisky. Foles helped lead the comeback as he went 16/29 for 188 yards and three touchdowns. He did throw one interception as well. So far this season, the only major category offensively that the Bears aren’t in the bottom half of the league in is rushing yards (11th). Now with Foles looking like the new leader behind center, this offense will look to improve on its 22nd-ranked passing offense.

Defensively, the Colts are among the league’s best through the first three games. They rank first in total yards allowed, passing yards allowed, and points allowed. They are also top five in rushing yards allowed and opponent 3rd down percentage. Playing opponents with a combined record of 1-8 also helps the cause.

For Chicago, their defense hasn’t been as good as many would have expected it to be at this point. While they are second in 3rd down percentage and ninth in points allowed, they have given up their fair share of yards. The Bears rank 15th in total yards, 17th in passing yards, and 17th in rushing yards.

Plugging Nick Foles into this offense should provide an immediate boost. Despite starting out 3-0, Chicago knew they had to head into a different direction offensively if they want to be a serious competitor this season. Foles will look to do just that by starting off with a huge win against a tough Indianapolis team. Expect a low-scoring game but also look for the Bears to get the cover and possibly even the win in this game. It will likely come down to the final possession but the Bears should squeak out a big win as Foles gets off to a 1-0 start this season. The spread is a safer pick than the moneyline.

Pick: Bears +3
