Premier Lacrosse League Draft Results, Who Will Be Odds on Favorite?
Contents
The Premier Lacrosse League had its third annual collegiate draft last night. With COVID ruining the 2020 NCAA season, many lacrosse players chose to stay an extra year in college as they were granted one additional year of eligibility. This led to a 2021 class that was stacked from top to bottom as it contained talents from what should have been 2020 and 2021.
Every single team was able to address needs and get better. However, it will be very interesting to see who emerges as the odds on favorite to win the PLL. We expect those odds to be supplied by DraftKings. However, there has not been word yet on if the betting deal between the PLL and DraftKings was renewed for the 2021 season. This news should be coming out very soon.

PLL Favorites
While teams did get better, it seems like the PLL may be turning into a two-horse race. First of all, the back-to-back defending champion Whipsnakes added even more weapons. The team is so solid that they simply got to go “best player available” at every spot. This led to the team adding my number one prospect from the draft Connor Kirst in the midfield and my 10th rated prospect in the draft Ryan Tierney at attack. The Whipsnakes were clearly the best team, and they added depth and power at every spot.
Then comes the clear runner-ups, the Redwoods. In the past two seasons, the Redwoods have fallen to the Whipsnakes in OT in the playoffs, both times. In 2019 that loss was in the championship; in 2020, that loss was in the semi-finals. The only hole on the Redwoods roster was faceoff, and the team went out got TD Ierlan, the greatest collegiate faceoff man of all time. Then, somehow, Charlie Bertrand fell to the Redwoods, my second highest-graded offensive midfielder. The team scooped him up and secured a top talent at the one other weakness that this team may have. The Redwoods also added another solid midfielder in Jamie Trimboli and faceoff depth with Charlie Leonard.
So, the best team in the league got better, and the only team that could really compete with them the past two years fixed their only holes with spectacular talent that fell into their lap. I imagine that the odds on favorite will be Whipsnakes by some margin, and the Redwoods will be the only team even in the same stratosphere in terms of odds.
