Rivers Casino Portsmouth Officially Opens With More Virginia Casinos Coming Soon

BetRivers LogoVirginia just got a brand new casino! The state has just seen one of the top names in betting launch a brand new retail casino, which is excellent news for bettors in the Portsmouth area. This is the latest development for the Virginia casino scene, which has plenty of major launches planned in the next few years.

With the Rivers Casino brand expanding into Portsmouth, let’s check out what to expect from the new retail casino as well as take a deeper look at the Virginia betting industry.

Rivers Casino Portsmouth Celebrates Grand Opening

The ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday signified the official opening of Rivers Casino Portsmouth. The opening ceremony kicked off with a performance by the nearby Norfolk State University Spartan Legion marching band.

Plus, according to FOX 8 North Carolina, opening remarks were given by individuals such as Mayor Shannon Glover, Rivers Casino manager Roy Corby, and Virginia Lottery Executive Director Brian Donahue.

With Rivers Casino Portsmouth now open, plenty of different popular casino games are fully available. Slot machines are plentiful at the casino, with everything from penny slots to High Limit machines being offered. There’s also a wide range of table games available, such as craps, three-card poker, roulette, blackjack, and Texas Hold ‘em.

Plus, there’s a full poker room available as Rivers Casino Portsmouth seven days a week. Additionally, casino-goers can now check out all the other attractions offered by the betting hotspot, such as Admirals Steak & Seafood, TopGolf Swing Suite, and the full in-person BetRivers Sportsbook.

Virginia Sports Betting Is Totally Legal, iGaming Still Prohibited

In addition to retail casino gaming, Virginia sports betting is fully live! That means if you’re within the legal betting age in the state (21 years or older), you can sign up for a mobile betting app or place wagers at a retail sportsbook.

With Virginia rolling out sports betting in January of 2021, fans in the area have been able to wager on their favorite teams for two whole years now.

However, Virginia online casino gaming isn’t currently available. With the two years of online Virginia sports betting proving successful and plans for more retail casinos in the Old Dominion State coming soon, that could potentially change in the future.

Other Major Virginia Retail Casinos Are Coming Soon

With the addition of Rivers Casino Portsmouth, the state of Virginia has another retail casino option for bettors to experience. Another major Virginia casino is the Hard Rock Casino Bristol, which is open in a temporary location with plans for a full 2024 opening. The future is very bright for Virginia casinos, with plenty of big names coming soon.

Caesars Virginia Danville, for example, is planning on opening in a temporary location in July of 2023 with full expansion plans for late 2024. Headwaters Resort & Casino Norfolk will also be available in the future, with expectations for an opening in 2024 or 2025. In the meantime, Headwaters Resort & Casino will also search for a temporary location, with details coming at a later date.
