tennesseestateflag160X89The Tennessee sports betting industry now has another online sportsbook available, and it is one of the biggest names in the industry. William Hill officially launched on Thursday, just in time for March Madness to begin.

The Sports Wagering Committee officially approved William Hill of a sports betting license in January, but the company could not go live until this week. William Hill is now the fifth online sports betting option in the state, and there are not retail betting options available.

The Christmas Day explosion that rocked downtown Nashville was a major reason for the delayed launch, as William Hill utilized a server in the Nashville area. Now that the server has been repaired, “America’s Number 1 Sportsbook” is open for business in the state.

New customers at William Hill are eligible for a first bet offer worth up to $2,021 when creating an account in the state of Tennessee.

Two More Approved Operators Waiting

When Tennessee online sports betting first went live on November 1, 2020, four mobile sportsbooks were ready to launch. The state was hopeful that more options could be coming soon, but there hasn’t been much growth since that time.

Action 24/7, BetMGM, DraftKings, and FanDuel were the first four online sports betting options, and that has allowed them to get a jump on the competition. William Hill is now the fifth option, but two others are also approved for a license.

TwinSpires and WynnBET have both been approved by the Tennessee Education Lottery, but an official launch date has not yet been set.

Tennessee Sports Betting Climbs in January

Tennessee sports betting continues to set new industry records, and it has quickly emerged as one of the top markets in the United States. The total sports betting handle for January was $211 million.

That huge month of January brought the total sports betting handle to more than $500 million in the first three months. No state has reached that total quicker than Tennessee, and adding William Hill will provide another massive boost.

March Madness Set to Begin

ncaa logo100While some states don’t allow betting on collegiate sporting events, that is not the case in Tennessee. In-play or live betting on college games is prohibited in the Volunteer State, but sportsbooks can take action on college basketball and college football.

With the 2021 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament set to begin next week, it should be another big month for the Tennessee sports betting industry. The Tennessee Volunteers will be in the field of 68, likely as a higher seed, when it is announced as part of Selection Sunday, but there will be plenty of bets made on all of the games.
